I believe a good hand shake will bring back America from the disaster in Iraq after Iraq is lost like we lost Vietnam.

I have a Conservative friend and we yell at each other but it always comes down to he has a right to be selfish I guess, but we hunt, fish, and party together so I guess we will just agree to disagree.

We lost Vietnam because of the War Protestors, The US lost 58,000 men in Vietnam, the NVA / VC lost in upwards of 3,000,000. The same thing is taking place in Iraq, everyone was protesting no BLOOD for OIL, well where is the Oil at? Gas is still $2.50 a gallon even with Saddam in Jail and Iraq in American control. This war was not about Oil or Profit, because the National Debt is getting worse by the Hour. We might have had bad intelligence, but this War was not started over something as Trivial as Oil. Our the other protest slogan bring our troops home save our troops from Iraq. Why does the protester constantly mention the Troops, we do not want to be associated with your protest, we signed up to do a Job regardless of our own personal feelings. Anti War people are the same people who do not Vote and the same people who do not Serve their country. So I dont think I will ever want to shake one of there hands.

Being as the Iraq war won't actually be lost then your question is invalid. The real question is whether the anti war and the "pro war" people will get along after 2008 when and if we are unfortunate enough to get a liberal in the oval office and pull out leaving Iraq to be taken over by Iran. Remember, the only way to lose a war to actually get beat. Pulling out after accomplishing an objective is not getting beat. We pulled out of Vietnam because the nutjobs in our country who don't understand the international chess game yelled so loud and destroyed a generation. We did not lose Vietnam, we quit. South Korea was kept from becoming communist...mission accomplished. Our mission in Iraq will not be accomplished until the country is stable and we destroy Iran or it's ability to stir things up in the streets of Baghdad. Remember to thank a liberal if this ends up being an official "loss" on our record!

The real question here is after the war, if it is lost or won will the anti'war protestors stop there? Will they harass members of our military still? Example Not metioning any names but Woman protesting at a funeral for a fallen soldier from Iraq. Are the Anti-war protestors going to start harasing my friends and me for serving our country? I proudly wear this uniform and have deployed without crying about it. Are we going to be treated like our vietnam vetrans that served this country like true patriots? What true american would want to shake the hand of a former war protestor who now is calling our troops baby killers and murderers? Only the war-protestors can settle this question. Will they still hate America and our soldiers?

The guerilla war in Iraq and Afghanistan where terrorists are slain 4 to 1 is a sad thing for sure! And yes the Anti-war folks will be able to exchange handshakes with the hawks if they come out of hiding!

The Iraqi war can't be lost, since only Congress can declare War, and they didn't, there never was one, moreover, Bush has stated that the conflict is over and that we won, so, by Presidential decree, what is now happening in Iraq is peace. That peace is what our troops are now there now to win.

to the great politcator...you say that you don't lose a war if you meet your objectives...
Thank God!!! I'm so relieved you believe that...that means we can leave Iraq right now
1 find and destroy wmd's...done...they didn't exist
2 remove Saddam from power..done...he is currently on trial
3. bring democracy to Iraq..done the ones trying Saddam are the democratically elected government

so why are we still there? did someone plan badly?...something about we will be greeted as liberators with candy, flowers and parades or something?

I'm afraid I have to agree with "Chris J". I feel however that the outcome will be similar to the outcome of Vietnam & that will be the main reason, reconsiliation will be difficult if not impossible. Should the US be successful, there will be a better chance for easing the situation.

They haven't managed to be friends since the Vietnam war, I doubt our victory in Iraq will change anything.
