The Student and Teacher Edition allows an installation on up to 3 computers. All the other versions only allow an installation on a primary computer and a 2nd installation on a laptop.

The first answer was correct, the Student Teacher allows 3. But you must meet the criteria ... AND .... it is not upgradable!!!! So if you want to move up to Office 2007 (due out soon if not already) then you have to buy it at full price.

Have you looked at OpenOffice? I switched 3 years ago and have been very happy with it. I would not use it to exchange anything but basic business documents because the cost of something gone wrong just isn't worth it. However, since my inner circle has been quietly installing OpenOffice, I find myself reaching for MS Office less and less. OpenOffice is magnificent! Best part it is included on the Ubuntu LiveCD which I have running more than 1/2 the time.

I think legally each copy is for one license for one machine. However, there is no way Microsoft will know if you install it on all 3 machines (just register it on one machine, or dont register at all).

It is different in a company environment because of auditing.

Depends on where the computers are located if all in ur home, its okay, MS will not chase u. If in a business, u can get fined.
