I am a freshman at high school and I'm in treble choir. There are non-varsity and varsity choirs at my school. I want and NEED to get out of treble choir. I would take voice lessons to improve but cash is a problem. Any pointers on how to improve my tonality and breathing. ( I tend to sharp; Im an Alto I)
thank you.

Sorry to say, you need a voice coach. Maybe your teacher will give you an hour a week for training. It's like strength training. You can't see what's going on objectively. I gained an octave with one hour a week with a coach.

I used to teach in a school with a great vocal coach. She heard me singing a tenor aria (from "The Magic Flute") one day and asked if she could give me lessons. I said I was a contralto and would never get to soprano level. She disagreed and offered me some free lessons.

She said I could definitely sing soprano if I "supported my voice" with my diaphragm (the membrane just below the lungs). We did some exercises (singing and breathing from the diaphragm) for this and before long,I was able to hit notes MUCH higher than I ever had!

I'll never be a coloratura (no "Die Hoelle Rache for me!)...but still, now I can sing soprano (w/practice). I agree that you need a vocal teacher/coach. Good luck!

I used be in a church choir and it was fun

The key to singing is to have fun,
my teacher he gives us a method
he plays a note on the piano and we have to match it
but cash wont make you go faster it will make you tired
so breathing excersise: when you get ready you need to breathe in and out in and out then once more and out that you can concentrate

And heres another tip: when singing you need to exercise your body you know extra air they say, working with body, voice and soul is my key to sing i might not be good explaining this but Your voice and your body have to syncrohnize with your note its more like rythm

Try laying down on the floor and singing when you practice. This helps you project more. Just practicing often makes you a better singer. Don't have milk or ice cream before you sing or it will make your voice sound weird. Also, drink plenty of water.
