When one reads in such a reliable encyclopedia as the Americana of Christmas’ origin, it makes him wonder; for under the heading “Christmas” this authority says: “The celebration was not observed in the first centuries of the Christian church. . . . In the 5th century the Western church ordered the feast to be celebrated on the day of the Mithraic rites of the birth of the sun and at the close of the Saturnalia, as no certain knowledge of the day of Christ’s birth existed.

“Among the German and Celtic tribes the winter solstice was considered an important point of the year and to commemorate the return of the sun they held their chief festival of yule, which, like other pagan celebrations, became adapted to Christmas. Most of the customs now associated with Christmas were not originally Christmas customs but rather were pre-Christian and non-Christian customs. . . . Saturnalia, a Roman feast celebrated in mid-December, provided the model for many of the merrymaking customs of Christmas.”

Perhaps most surprising of all, though, is that so much of the traditional Christmas celebrations misses the vital points of the Gospel narratives. Little thought is given, for instance, to Jesus’ Father—not Joseph, but Jehovah God. Imagine his feelings upon entrusting his beloved Son to Joseph and Mary for them to raise him and provide for him. Imagine the heavenly Father’s agony in letting his Son grow up in a world in which a hate-filled king would plot his murder even when he was a mere child! It was profound love for mankind that moved Jehovah to make this sacrifice.—John 3:16.

The real Jesus is often lost in Christmas celebrations. Why, there is no record that he ever even told the disciples his date of birth; nor is there any indication that his followers celebrated his birthday.

If those answers are far too confusing for your little christian brain, I will make it easy:

It was stolen from Pagans. They celebrated the winter solstice. The church started making people celebrate it in 375 CE because they would not give up the pagan holiday; they could not beat them, so they joined them. It was not widely accepted til the 7th century.

Nothing in Christianity is original. All of it is a rip off of earlier religions, including the notion of Jesus the Savior.

Christmas is a steal from pagan celebration of Solstice. All its traditions are steals as well.
