NO I walk from house to house accepting donations for a cause. Do you think is to heavy of a topic for halloween. I never consider that. I wouldn't hand a brochure to children

Are you going to pass out the brochure along with treats? This isn't clear. Some parents may not appreciate brochures about puppy mills along with their kids' candy.

If you know someone who writes well, get them to compose a simple, literate brochure that is NOT insulting. I run a shelter and work with many rescue organizations and we despise puppy mills, but being insulting or dramatic (like PETA) is no way to win over people. You look like one more kook, the brochure gets trashed, and you don't create the awareness you want.

Altho your intentions are great, I don't see how passing out brochures is going to make the impact you need. How often do we see discarded fliers and brochures blowing around grocery store parking lots? Since you seem to have a lot of knowledge about the mills in your area, why not join forces with people who are already working to change the laws? Appropriate legislation could take care of the problem. The local people already involved could suggest many ways that you could be helpful with this.

Yes, this is a paper battle, but one you should wage with your lawmakers. Do they allow petitions in your area? How about a petition drive at a local humane event? You would already have the audience you need, and signatures from voters carry a lot of weight with politicians.

I don't know of anyone who thinks puppy mills are a good idea, except the puppy mill owners and the few remaining pet stores who sell the defective animals to families. It's all about money to them. Well, voters' opinions are what matter to your elected officials. Getting LOTS of signatures to protest the mills, with specific writing about changed legislation, could help win the war.

Good luck to you.

I say you should go to some web sites that have pictures of puppy mills and what goes on in them get the worst looking ones you can and print them out then put them in a pamplet and hand them out to people. hopefully people will see them and help you out and by the way nice going we need more people like you in this world. and heres a poem I found thought it was kinda touching. you could put this in also.

A DOG’S PLEA
Treat me kindly, my beloved friend, for no heart in all the world is more grateful for kindness than the loving heart of me.
Do not break my spirit with a stick, for though I should lick your hand between blows, your patience and understanding will more quickly teach me the things you would have me learn.
Speak to me often, for your voice is the world’s sweetest music, as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail when your footstep falls upon my waiting ears.
Please take me inside when it is cold and wet, for I am a domesticated animal, no longer accustomed to bitter elements. I ask no greater glory than the privilege of sitting at your feet beside the hearth.
Keep my pan filled with fresh water, for I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst. Feed me clean food that I may stay well, to romp and play and do your bidding, to walk by your side and stand ready, willing and able to protect you with my life, should your life be in danger.
And, my friend, when I am old, and I no longer enjoy good health, hearing and sight, do not make heroic efforts to keep me going. I am not having any fun. Please see that my trusting life is taken gently. I shall leave this earth knowing with the last breath I draw that my fate was always safest in your hands.

Instead of ruining these breeders animals, lives, and families (You know they have lives and families, right?), why not educate BUYERS? If no one bought their junk dogs (and no, not all of them are junk) then they wouldn't breed them! Period! It's simple supply and demand. And it's very stereotypical to post only the WORST commercial breeders (that's what they are really called, according to the USDA and Dept. of Ag.-there's no such thing as a 'puppy mill')...you never see the clean, well run kennels, or the beautiful, healthy and happy dogs they produce. I'm not condoning the commercial breeding of dogs, but I really think you should see BOTH sides of a story.

First of all, pictures CAN mean 1,000 words. Puppy mills are actually legal - just not animal abuse..... well they kind of go hand in hand anyway. Research the whole thing and put them in words that explain what it is, etc.
