My personal opinion is a resounding "NO, NO, NO!!!
I have a blind friend who was born blind, because her mother was smoking during her pregnancy.
A number of women I've met would argue otherwise, because they have given birth to healthy babies and they are still smoking but the child's health will still suffer in the end because of the effects of passive smoking. Consider the costs. A pack a day would cost around £35 a week. That's £35 x 52 = £1820 plus your 2 a day which is 10% of your girlfriend's intake = £182 a year: Total: £2622. Think what that would buy you, or better still, think what it would do for the baby's upkeep which, at current levels costs around £6,000 a year or more, benefits or no benefits. Even if you thought you could afford it, think of how much money you could put away for the child's education if they were lucky enough to go to university. The possibilities are endless, and all you care about is a few fags a day! My blind friend didn't have any say in the matter!!

Doubtless you will have lots of posters saying she should be executed.

Smoking *is* a risk factor in pregnancy, but be aware that at a time when virtually every pregnant woman smoked, the incidence of problems was not so great that it was obvious to medical experts at the time.

Bear in mind that giving up smoking can be an enormously stressful experience for some people, and stress itself can be a cause of problems during pregnancy.

If she can give up, then ideally she should. Any mother should ideally try to be in as healthy a state as possible while carrying a child.

pregnant woman shouldnt smoke, but just because they do does not mean that something will be wrong with the baby.. my aunt was 41 years old and smoked 2 packs a day and yes her baby was only 5 pounds, she was perfect.. she is now 10 years old and very smart.. lots of women smoke while pregnant and have healthy babys...

Smoking can cause a lot of problems to the baby any where from low birth weight to heart and lung problems. Your girlfriend needs to stop smoking now before its to late. Let the baby have a chance of good health.

Hello, my name is Kim Kersey, and I am an intern to be a OB/GYN. It is NOT good to smoke during pregnancy, especially during the first 4 months. It can cause birth defects as well as alcohol and drugs. I highly advise her not to smoke AT ALL during pregnancy! Your baby could be born with asthma, prematurely, and a lot of other stuff. If you have any questions, you can email my work email at Dr.KimKersey07@yahoo.com or add me on my messenger. I check my email once an hour for updates on babies I’ve delivered, but I am not always on messenger. You can try me on there though. Good luck with your baby! Email me when she finds out what she’s having or when she has the baby. I like to check up on people on here! Thx! < Dr. Kim Kersey

NO.

Some of these risk factors include:

You are more likely to have a miscarriage.

Your baby is more likely to die before birth.

Smoking can cause placenta previa (Dangerous situation where the placenta covers the cervix.)

It can cause a placental abruption (Where the placenta separates from the wall of the uterus denying all oxygen to your baby.)

It increases your risk of a preterm birth. Babies born too early can suffer more breathing problems and have long hospital stays.

It increases the chances of your baby learning difficulties as a child.

There is a higher incidence of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS or crib death) in babies born to mothers who smoked or who are exposed to second hand smoke after birth.)

Your girlfriend should only smoke if she doesnt care about her unborn child and wants it to be born with a weak heart and lungs and any of the other crap things that can happen. That is of course if the baby actually makes it. It may sound harsh but its true!!
You should quit too!!

Smoking, especially excessively, is good for no-one. Just as bad, if not worse after the baby is born. If she really cares about her own health, as well as that of the Baby, she should stop.

no it would be very wise for both of you to stop smoking if not forever at least now for the 9 months for the sake of a child. Do not be that selfish

No, if she smokes, she runs the risk of giving birth to a baby with heart/lung problems, she should quit if at all possible.
