Hi. My husband is in the Army Reserves. He is currently in Iraq on an 18 month tour of duty. The Reserves allow their soldiers to be home for 2-3 years between deployments and their deployments last 12-18 months. Based on the odds, I would say he will definitely get deployed somewhere before his time is up. As someone else stated previously, if you can't offer him support, please don't stay. If you really love him then you would be able to support him no matter what and love him through thick and thin. The one thing that keeps most of the soldiers going overseas is knowing they have someone who loves them and supports them waiting at home. Also, if he does get deployed and you are still with him, PLEASE don't cheat on him. Way to many women do this to a deployed soldier.

Most likely he will deploy before the time his contract is up.
Personally he should find someone better. If you do not want to start a relationship because he may be deployed it sounds like you have the problems.
I know I wouldnt want to be with someone that would drop me once they found out I had to go overseas.

I have been in the guard for 8 years and deployed 2x. Once thanks to Clinton and Once thanks to the terrorist. It depends on his unit and his MOS. If he does get deployed, it is usually 18 months active duty with 12 months in theatre. Don't live your life worried about what may or may not happen. More people die on the interstates or in downtown America than while deployed.

If you listen to the news, you will find out that people who went into the reserves and the guard thought they were safe from war. But they are over there with the regulars. How long no one knows, Bush tells them one thing and then when they get there he extends there time. If you can't handle it then put an end to it now before he goes over there. He has enough to think about being in war and he shouldn't have to worry about his girlfriend!

Great chance - my son is officer in Army & they tell all recruits
they will be deployed. The Guard's deployment vary from
6-18 months. If you can not be supportive - keep looking he needs support.

God only knows. George Bush loves to send the troops. Guard units tend to go last and least frequently, but they do go.
If it is a problem for you and you can just let him go, then he doesn't mean much to you and you should let him find someone who could really love him.

If he is in the guard for that much longer it is almost inevitable. I'm surprised he hasn't gone already

he is going to get deployed sooner then later. and your relationship will prolly fail. not trying to be mean only telling you the truth. it's not fair for you to try to wait for him. have fun while he's around. and maybe when he gets back the you guys can pick up from there.
