A great recipe that's fast for Halloween is Kids will love the gross-out factor of this tasty finger food. Parents will love the fact that it is candy-free. Try some for a party or pre-trick-or-treating dinner. Ingredients: Cocktail wieners 6-inch tortillas Ketchup or mustard Toothpicks Directions 1. Heat the oven to 350 degrees. Cut a wedge into the end of each cocktail wiener to make a toenail. 2. Cut the tortillas into strips about 4 inches long and 3/4 inch wide. Discard the ends. 3. Soften the strips in the microwave between damp paper towels for 10 to 30 seconds. 4. Roll each wiener in a tortilla strip and secure with a toothpick. 5. Bake for 7 to 8 minutes. Remove them from the oven, then fill the toenail with ketchup or mustard. Remove the toothpicks before serving.

Skeleton Bones for Halloween (cookies)
Ingredients
4 egg whites
1-3/4 cups sugar
1-3/4 cups flour
1 teaspoon grated orange peel
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1-1/2 cups salted almonds
Procedure
1. With an electric mixer on medium speed, beat egg whites and sugar with orange peel and baking powder until blended. Gradually add nuts and flour, beating until mixture is thoroughly mixed. Cover and chill until firm enough to handle, at least 1 hour or up to 1 day.
2. Lightly flour your hands and pinch off a 3 tablespoons size piece of dough. On a lightly floured board, use the palms of both hands to evenly roll an 8 inch long rope. Cut rope in half; roll each half out again to 8 inches. Fold 1 inch of each end back onto rope; pinch ends to make bone-end shapes. Repeat to shape all the dough.
3. Place bones 1 inch apart on buttered and flour-dusted 12 x 15 inch baking sheets. Bake in a 325°F oven until cookies are lightly browned on bottoms, about 20 minutes.

Add sugar; beat until fluffy. Add egg and vanilla; beat well. Add flour mixture and sour cream alternately, beating well after each addition. Divide dough into 2 portions. Wrap each portion in plastic wrap and chill for at least 2 hours. On a lightly floured surface roll half of the dough 1/8 inch thick. Cut out cookies with a large pumpkin shaped cookie cutter (4 to 6-inch size) or use a knife to cut out large pumpkin shapes. Place on foil-lined cookie sheets. Using small hors d'oeuvre cutters or a small sharp knife, cut out eyes, mouths, and noses. Use dough scraps to make noses or eyebrows; attach. With knife, make stem and vein marks in cookies. Spoon enough crushed candy into each cutout to fill hole. Repeat with remaining dough; reroll as necessary. Bake in a 350 degree oven 6 to 8 minutes or until very light brown around edges. Cool on baking sheets 10 minutes. Candy melts and will harden when cooled. Peel off foil; cool. Store in airtight container.

I was pawing through Taste of Home's Halloween issue at Meijer's last night and they had some really cute treats in there. I think Better Homes and Gardens has a Halloween issue out as well. Definitely pick those up if you can. I get paid tomorrow, and I'm grabbing them up.

I don't know about cupcakes, but my son and I made this cake last weekend, and it seems PERFECT for Halloween!!!
Kitty Litter Cake!
CAKE INGREDIENTS:
1 box spice or German chocolate cake mix
1 box of white cake mix
1 package white sandwich cookies
1 large package vanilla instant pudding mix
A few drops green food coloring
12 small Tootsie Rolls or equivalent
SERVING "DISHES AND UTENSILS" 1 NEW cat-litter box
1 NEW cat-litter box liner
1 NEW pooper scooper
1) Prepare and bake cake mixes, according to directions, in any size pan. I made 2 marble cakes by mixing them together in the baking pans. Prepare pudding and chill. Crumble cookies in small batches in blender or food processor. Add a few drops of green food coloring to 1 cup of cookie crumbs. Mix with a fork or shake in a jar. Set aside.
2) When cakes are at room temperature, Place liner in litter box, cut cakes to fit in litter pan, then ice with the pudding. .
3) Unwrap 3 Tootsie Rolls and heat in a microwave until soft and pliable. Shape the blunt ends into slightly curved points. Repeat with three more rolls. Bury the rolls decoratively in the cake mixture. Sprinkle remaining white cookie crum bs over the mixture, then scatter green crumbs ligh tly over top.
4) Heat 5 more Tootsie Rolls until almost melted. Scrape them on top of the cake and sprinkle with crumbs from the litter box. Heat the remaining Tootsie Roll until pliable and hang it over the edge of the box. Place box on a sheet of newspaper and serve with scooper. Enjoy! I wish I could sent you a pic of the one we made! It looks NASTY! But it;s yummy!
