What if it feeds your children and pays for their doctor's appointments...
If my job offers healthcare and I can't afford the premium, is it wrong to deny the offer and apply for welfare insurance?

I do not think that it is wrong to collect welfare as long as you are trying to make it. It sounds like you don't need welfare however, you may need Healthwave. This is dependant upon your income/dependant level. Healthwave will supplement your health insurance. If you have health insurance and your premium for meds is 20% of cost, or office copays are, say, $15, the Healthwave will pay for the copays, etc. It is also referred to as a coinsurance. You can also use the Healthwave as a primary insurance for your kids, and not get your insurance through work. You may not qualify for Healthwave though, there are pretty strict guidelines for an adult to get it. But you can get health insurance with your job for you and healthwave for your kids.

I had Healthwave 21 when I was preganant with my child. ONLY when I was pregnant. I am fortunate enough to be able to afford my health benefits with my job, but if I were not able to, I'd get the Healthwave for my kid again until I could afford the premium.

You can definately apply for welfare, but you may be denied. I don't think that it's wrong. It sounds like you at least have the option of health insurance at work, which can't be said for over 50% of the US population. Now, if you keep using it and using it (the welfare) and you don't try to help yourself (get a better job, get a raise, promotion, etc), then that is abuse of the welfare system and is wasting tax-payers' monies.

Hope that this helps!

I do not feel it is wrong if it is truly needed to take care of your children. Food stamps and health insurance is a wonderful benefit for needy children. If you cannot afford these items on your own then it is absolutely appropriate to utilize the system. However, there are way too many people out there that abuse the system and that is what upsets taxpayers. Some are just too lazy to get out and try to support themselves and their kids. As long as that is not your situation you are not wrong for accepting welfare.

I think collecting from the government is fine as long as you try to better yourself and get out of the situation you are in. There are people that truly deserves to get help, but there are many that are just as able as I am to work and make a decent living for their family.
One problem I have are these women that continually get themselves pregnant and collect welfare.
Also. most health insurance policies are so high now that unless you have a very good job you can not afford to pay the premiums.

No it's not wrong. Welfare is there to help the working poor. We've had jobs before where we couldn't afford the health care premiums either. It is wrong to sit on your butt and not get a job and just expect the government to take care of you and your family, but that doesn't sound like you. You do what you have to do to take care of your family. Don't feel bad about it. You are the type of person those programs are there to help.

The programs are there for a reason... to help those in need that can't afford things otherwise.

If you can't afford your employer's insurance, I don't see a problem in you receiving help for at least health care. It's for your kids and the most important thing is having something to cover them and take care of them. It's not like you are trying to cheat the system or anything.

It's not wrong to deny the offer if you can't afford it. You have kids to take care of. A lot of people can't afford those things. Now, it would be wrong to go out shopping for shoes and hats and expensive stuff and *then* apply for the assistance, but you are not doing those things. You are just trying to raise your kids and have enough money left out of your paycheck so you can do so.

No there is nothing wrong with collecting welfare if you need it. Just don't abuse it and dont try to live off it because that would be wrong. I have welfare foodstamps and medicaid but I dont plan on having it forever. It is a really big help when you are struggling. When I get on my feet and stable I dont plan to still collect benefits but for now I am. Plus I am sure in the long run I will pay the government back twice as much as they've helped me.

If you need it ...Use it....Just dont abuse it

A person should not plan to live off of welfare. It is intended to be a safety net for when things go wrong so the children, in particular, do not overly suffer.

In this era, people should strive for a good education so they can have a good job. They should do family planning and only have children they can afford. If things go temporarily wrong then that is what welfare is intended for.

Personally, I feel people should turn to their own family for aid before seeking aid from the taxpayers. People should strive to get off of welfare and return to supporting themself and their family as soon as they can.

Good Luck,

No, not if you're someone who really needs it. The only problem with welfare is that some people abuse it. Then there will be none left for the people that really do need it. You are working and doing the best you can with small children. It's the people that get it through fraud that are the real problems.

The truth is there's a lot of people who work hard and can't get by. They need some kind of guarantee, because there's no guarantee that hard workers will be rewarded appropriately. The system isn't perfect, and sometimes even performing essential services doesn't mean that you will get by, even though the public needs these services to get by. In my area it's roofing, for one, and there must be others. Who can do without a roof over their heads?

Its not wrong to collect welfare as long as you don't cheat the system and you need it for you or your family. If you use welfare to get to the point where you can be self-sufficient, then that's good, that why welfare was created.

But if you're a dead beat who is too lazy to work or lies to be eligible for welfare, then you are scum and deserve to go to jail. Nobody is owed welfare!
