I am taking my 5-ish month old pup to puppy class today and they ask for a copy of shot records. The class requires the following: rabies* (*age appropriate); Parvovirus; Distemper & Parainfluenza. My vet paper lists: DHLPPC #2 VX and Drontal Plus K9. Are these the required vaccines? I don't know what's what and thought maybe the vet's list them as something else on the shot records. Anyone know?

D- distemper
H- hepatitis
L- leptospirosis
P- parvovirus
P- parainfluenza
C- corona

The drontal is a dewormer. The #2 means that it was the second puppy shot. Puppies get a series of 3 or 4 puppy shots depending on the place giving them. I'm unsure on the VX...it could possibly be the brand of the vaccine they gave you.

I think the DHLPPC #2 VX is a combo vaccine for the things you listed. Call the vet and ask. I don't know what Drontal Plus K9 is for though. Usually most vets are trustworthy enough to give pups what they actually need, so you can be pretty sure the dog has had the right vaccinations. They will usually ask if they do out of the ordinary ones like Lyme or Ghiardia or even Bordatella.

First - the reason why your pup needs the shots is, depending on genetic makeup, he/she can be susceptible to other animals carrying these goodies. Example is Parvo - which is present all over the place, and can wreak havoc on the undeveloped immune systems of puppies (Rotties are more susceptible)

To your question DHLPPC...this is for Distemper, Hepatitis, K9 Leptospirosis, Parainfluenza, Parvovirus, and Corona Virus....
for more detail as to what these compounds prevent go to:

Drontal Plus is a wormer...this is to rid the pup of roundworms, whipworms and such. Pups will usually have worms as a result of passage from the ***** (mother dog).

Your vet is right on with the shots...just be sure you followup at his recommendation - like humans, we need a few shots to get the immune system keeping the antibodies going, and then boosters at perodic intervals.

Hope that helps. And GREAT JOB going to a puppy class. A well socialized and trained dog is a joy!

As long as the puppy was not due for a third vaccine. And tell your vet that Lepto and Corona are no longer recommended by the AVMA and AAHA. It is totally unnecessary to give them.
The puppy can now have the rabies vaccine also, since it has not been given yet.
Maybe the puppy was due for another distemper combo vaccine and that was when the rabies was going to be given. Check with the vet.

The #2VX means in was the SECOND vaccine. VX means vaccine.

The newest protocol is for the pup to receive a DA2PP. The DHLPPC should not be given.
See the recommendations of the AAHA. This is the protocol followed by all 27 vet schools in the US. Also note, that adult dog vaccines are only to be given every 3 yrs.

Actually the vaccines are good for longer than that. See the Wisconsin University weblink

The DHLPPC is the vaccination for distemper/parvo/hepatitis/lepto/parainfluenza/coronavirus. That is the required vaccine. Drontal is a wormer for roundworms, hookworms and tapeworms.

No, they are no longer one hundred% assured. a sturdy occasion may be the Leptospirosa vaccine, that's blanketed interior the 7-in-a million shot. even even with the incontrovertible fact that the 7-in1 is meant to take transport of in line with annum, the Lepto vaccine truthfully purely covers your canine for an wide-unfold of 6-7 months, and it purely covers a pair of million/2 the well-known strains of Lepto.
