You aren't supposed to wear the wedding colors to the wedding. It certainly isn't rude, just a little strange if you do it intentionally. But if your dress happens to include the wedding colors-no biggie. Just don't wear white!

I wouldn't wear the colors. I went to the wedding of a coworker's, they didn't mail me an invite it was a verbal invitation. I showed up in a teal dress and pearls, and would you know it I was wearing pretty much the exact thing the bridesmaids were. My one friend there said that I looked like a friend who was upset they were not asked to be a part of the bridal party. It was really awkward!

No, only the bridal party expected to wear the wedding colors. It would be a little rude to show up in something identical to the bridesmaids' dress, but there's nothing wrong with wearing something in the general color scheme.
Wear whatever you like and makes you feel comfortable, don't pay any attention to what the official wedding colors are. Just don't wear a pure white dress that might distract from the bride!

Depends. Brides like Sarah Jessica Parker wore black to her wedding, albeit she regrets it now. Otherwise, it depends on the personality of the bride and groom, time of year, time of day, wedding/reception venue and what other guests may be wearing. Brides may love red, but may only want their bridesmaids to wear the color, while others want everyone dressed in festive colors. If don't know how the bride will react to your attire and the other considerations are unknown to you, err on the safe side. Go to a bridal boutique and try on dresses. You may be surprised that another color looks better than the red you once liked. How about wearing red as an accent color to your outfit, i.e., red shoulder wrap, red belt, or a muted version of red like a red-wine color, or as print. Don't forget the fashion fopas and the such like wearing white after labor day in states with 4 seasons.

As long as it isn't an exact match for the dresses the bridesmaids are wearing, it is fine. Does your friend think that no one at the wedding is allowed to wear brown or pink? That is simply ridiculous. Plus, most guests have no idea what the wedding colors are going to be ahead of time. I'd suggest she lighten up. Go get that dress!!

I'd rather wear black to a wedding myself. I think so my mother made me wear pink to a wedding once even thought I WAS NOT PART OF THE wedding party. Now that I'm 20 I can wear all black for weddings are depressing.
Personaly I think if your not part of the wedding party u can wear whatever u want.

Don't wear a dress the same color as the wedding colors! It will undoubtably be a much more flattering one than the bridesmaids are forced to wear. So as to not show them up, wear a different colored dress.

Whether or not you wear the wedding colors is not important. If it is a formal wedding, wear formal clothes, casual, then wear casual clothes. If it has a theme, wear whatever that theme may be. If it is a Halloween Wedding, you may be asked to come in costume.

It is rude for the Mother of Bride or Groom to wear black or white. Since you are planing to purchase a new dress I suggest you avoid the wedding colors. I might look like your trying to horn in on the bridal party. If it was the only color dress you had it might be ok

I could be wrong but I think the bride and groom's mothers can wear the same shade of color that the bridesmaids are wearing. That's how it was at my wedding. That way the mothers stand out.
