well for one thing, they don't know you have dyslexia, do you wear a sign? For another, you're talking about their money... and people get really pissy when it comes to their scrilla.... ya know. But I've worked customer service for more than 10 years now, and I can tell you that the general public is impatient in every way with everyone. So, try not to take it personal, and just do your best.

Most people will not laugh at someone with dyslexia IF THEY KNOW YOU HAVE IT. My oldest daughter had dyslexia - she constantly got her numbers mixed up, her b's and d's. She had a very hard time in school, and the teachers thought she was slow. In her junior year, a very caring teacher worked with her and discovered that she did indeed have dyslexia. What a relief and a blessing to know it was a real condition and not because she was slow. She still has troble today, and sometimes when she write, her letters are mixed up. It is better to let people know that you have this problem rather than to have people think that you just don't know what you are doing. I think it is wonderful that you are a cashier. Good for you. I know that it is hurtful when people say things to you when you get mixed up, but I think if they knew, they would be very contrite and very ashamed of themselves. My daughter, after we found her problem, would let people know if she was in public and she got mixed up. For her, this was the best solution. She could never run a cash register like you do and I admire you for it. I wish you all the very best, and good luck to you.

The main reason is because of this society being a Me Me Me society with very little manners. So you make a mistake once in a while no need to yell at you just look at the receipt and see if the change is correct. These people are rude and inconsiderate, yes they may not know of your disability but that is no business of theirs and your Mgr. cannot fire you because that is grounds for discrimination under the ADA (American Disabilities Society).
My brother has this disability and goes to a school for it.
This school teaches lower middle and High school classes. The lower and middle do not go by grades 1-8 they go by you're ability to learn things at you're own pace.
I really Hope this helps.

BrownEyed Girl and Churchlady the link below is an excellent school.

Unless you have a big sign on that says, "I'm dyslexic," then people aren't going to know, so they may just think you aren't paying attention.

I'm sorry they don't cut you more slack. Dyslexia also runs in my family and it can be tough sometimes.

People are just impatient in general. If they have to wait more than 15 seconds for anything they get testy.

OBVIOUSLY, because they don't KNOW you, and because they don't know you, they don't know that you have dyslexia. And for the other people who have dyslexia, their friends and loved ones are, AT TIMES, impatient with dyslexia because they don't FULLY understand it and understand what you're going through. Also, it can be, AT TIMES, VERY frustrating to them because it's NEGATIVELY affecting them.

Well are you wearing an 'I have dyslexia' badge? Probably not- all they know is that you seem to be trying to over charge them.

Well, it isn't like you're wearing a sign that says, "Please don't yell at me, I'm dyslexic." How the heck are they supposed to know? Of COURSE they are going to correct you, they want to pay only the amount due!

if it doesn't effect them, then they don't care.
unfortunately if they treat you that way they treat everyone that way.
patience is a thing of the past.
