my boyfriend's sister invited me to her daughter's Christening at the end of the month. I am from a non-religious family so I've never been to one. I know what they're all about and all of that good stuff but I wanted to know, are christening gifts expected? Its not a big deal if they are but if they aren't, I dont want to be the only one bringing a gift! If they are, what do you recommend? The baby is only a few months old. Thank you!!

In the Lutheran church, it is not a "Christening", but Baptism.
Baptism is one of the two sacraments for Lutherans, the other being the Eucharist (Holy Communion).

Gifts, in order of importance: Your presence, a card. Since you are non-religious, a gift would be nice, but probably not be expected.

Photographs are not usually permitted in the church during worship. But you might speak with the pastor before hand and arrange to have the baptism "recreated" for a photo, then frame the picture. Someone will surely present the child with a bible,
