Why, nero, I thought that you had killed yourself because of fear of punishment after you killed your brother, your mother, and your wife ( sorry, you didn't have the guts to push the blade yourself and a slave did it for you, crawl back to your hole )

Actually Christianity WAS a cult back when it started, it's a sect of Judaism. Or course, it branched off and after some time passed we have what we have now.
What people misunderstand about the definition of "cults" is that THEY ARE NOT ALL EVIL. In simple terms, a cult is a belief that a small minority holds, and a religion is a belief that a majority holds. They're both the same, the only difference is the population. If you create a following of, let's say a turkey, and you have 3 people - it's a cult. Why? Because the majority said so, a society is basically a bunch of people telling other people what to do and how to think. Of course, if a billion people said they believe in THAT turkey, the turkey will be the next messiah regardless of logic. It's a belief.

Cult
1. A system of religious worship and ritual.
2. A religion or sect considered extremist or false.
Christianity is certainly number 1 and, depending upon the person judging, could also be number 2. What is a religion and what is a cult is in the eye of the beholder, so I wouldn't say that a cult must be a bad thing.
But to answer the question--Christianity is allowed by those societies that value freedom of religion.

We allow Christianity,for the same reason you are allowed to believe what you want.It's a right.Freedom of religion.So,that means you don't have to believe,or you can believe whatever you want.Great concept,don't you agree? You also have the right,to not have anything shoved down your throat that you're not interested in.And if you are experiencing that,then it's called harassment,and you have the right to report that to your local authorities.If it's just that it makes you angry that you believe that Christianity is a cult,that's your right also.If you don't like that people post things about Christianity on this site.You are entitled to be angry,you're just not entitled to demand it be taken away from the people that want to believe in something.You also have the right to just pass by this section,and go on to another site where what you say may make a difference.Wonderful country we have here,all our rights that other countries don't have.YOU EVEN HAVE THE RIGHT TO KEEP COMING BACK TO THIS SITE AND ARGUE YOUR POINT,BUT IT REALLY WONT MAKE A DIFFERENCE TO TRUE BELIEVERS.Do have a wonderful day,and God bless.
Karpenski,I for one love your style

"Cult" nowadays has lost it's original meaning and become a derogatory buzz word. The correct definition* is: cult [F & L; f F "culte" fr L "cultus"="care, adoration", fr "cultus, pp. of "colere" to cultivate". 1. Any formal religious veneration: WORSHIP 2. a system of religious beliefs and ritual; also it's body of adherents. Any and all Churches of any kind are, therefor, cults, no matter the number of adherents. In there to have new and better insults people have adopted "cult" to mean "religions I dont agree with or approve of", which has made the question of culthood one of conjugation. Any belief system is a religion in the first person, i.e. Our belief system; it is only in the third person, i.e. Their belief system, that it becomes a cult. As to your second question, are all religions that ever have or ever will exist bad things? That is a question that cannot be meaningfully addressed in the space alloted here.

I don't think it is a cult, however, what is so innately bad about a cult. If you want to call something a cult, that is fine, but I don't understand why a cult is bad.
You could just as easily ask the question, why do we allow public schools? Aren't they just a cult, brain washing children into thinking a certain way.
Everyone is brainwashed by something, you might as well pick something that at least teaches you to be nice to people.

You may think specific religions are bad, but in the US, we "allow" Christianity, et al. because we believe that freedom of religion and belief is a basic human right. It is also a guarantee by the government for freedom of belief for individuals and freedom of worship for individuals and groups. Freedom of religion also includes the freedom not to follow any religion (irreligion) or not having any belief in god (atheism). So you're free to not believe that Jesus was the Messiah, but you have no right to impose your lack of belief on the Christens.
The First Amendment:
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."
It's not just the US; The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted by the United Nations in 1948 includes the statement:
"Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom, either alone or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship, and observance."
Humans have been worshiping in one form or another since there have been humans. I would guess that religious persecution has been around nearly that long & has never achieved its intended goal. Religion aint gonna go away any time soon. Ya might as well get used to it.

"Why do we allow Christianity."
THAT is EXACTLY what Carl Marx, and Joseph Stalin Asked. They COULD NOT stop it.
You, having the same mind set, might have a better idea as to how to control a belief.
~~~~~~~~~
"It is a cult to the myth of Jesus."
That is what you truly believe. You must be smarter than MILLIONS of True Believers.
Documents in the Archives of Rome, Israel, and the writings of the Jewish historian JOSEPHUS must have all been forged.
~~~~~~~~
"Aren't cults a bad thing?"
You, with all your GENIUS, have to ask!
I really thought that you, in your own mind, had ALL KNOWLEDGE.
~~~~~~~~
When you figure out how to disallow a belief I think it better you work on islam - the religion that is killing TODAY.
Jesus Christ was the flesh and blood manifestation of God. God made everything that exists now or has ever existed including you. You don't "allow" Christianity. It has been ordained to be by God Himself and It's not going anywhere until He declares it and He won't. Christianity is not a cult and Jesus Christ is not a myth. It is the power of God unto salvation. It has changed millions of lives and gives us hope of a life beyond the pointless,narcissistic, hedonistic,violent, pettiness of human existence. Cults are a bad thing because cults control. Christianity does not control. God Himself gives you the freedom of choice to accept, reject, worship, criticize, serve Him, curse him, save humanity or rape and kill your baby sister. You're free to do whatever you choose provided you are willing to accept the consequences. The bible itself says where the spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. Christians don't want control of your mind, they want to give you an opportunity to know the love, joy, peace, freedom and spiritual prosperity that we know. I personally got tired of doing wrong and wondering when and how it was going to come down on me. You don't believe in Jesus Christ, do you believe in "karma" what goes around comes around?
I don't have to live like that anymore and it's a HUGE load off my shoulders let me tell you!
First of all, I'd like to know why you wouldn't want Christianity "allowed". Christian people are law abiding, right-living individuals who believe in a God of love. we are taught to love one another, to live in peace with our fellow man. When (not if) Christians are taken off the earth in the near future, all hell will break loose here on earth. If that pleases you then you are either VERY immature or very stupid or just plain evil. Grow up. Jesus is real, the Bible is true and whether you believe it or not, you need Jesus to save you from a devil's hell.
In the United States there's this little thing called the 1st Ammendment to the Constitution, "Congress shall make no law respecting the establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof." Just because you don't believe in it doesn't mean you or the government get to stop it.
