my aunt went to the doctor and she thought it was a cyst but he told her it was Lipoma and that it's harmless but she may need surgery to remove it. ever heard of it before?

A lipoma is a benign tumor composed of fat. Yes, they are generally harmless, but they can be unsightly or cause problems by compressing surrounding tissues. A lot of it depends on where exactly it's located. Surgery usually consists of simple excision, again influenced by location or size.

It is just an encapsulated mass of normal fat. No problem.
