No. Military officials will tell you that they get better performance and more loyalty from an all volunteer army. When forced to fight for something they don't believe in, drafted people tend to work less and try to find a way out.

There are several steps which prelude "the draft" Courts will offer options to some offenders. Go do your time.. or.. join the Army. '70- '71 Nixon lottery for the draft.. Day after the numbers were pulled. against your birthday.. Well. A whole bunch of guys joined different branches of the service.. so as not to be drafted into the Army. Never did draft anyone What a Farce.

Well one way of ending the war in Iraq would be to reinstate the draft. Because then all those republicans who love this stupid war would hate to see their children and grandchildren drafted.

I do believe if conflict with North Korea takes place the draft will have to be reinstated. Because even now the military is already lowering standards to try and boost their recruiting numbers. Nobody wants to fight for our war loving president. So to get the troops needed to win a war with North Korea, there will have to be a draft.

Things are getting mighty lean at the recruiting stations, mainly due to the gaining unpopularity of the war in Iraq. Not so much with Afghanistan however. in either case, the patriots have taken a sabbatical and that's not good! At this rate, plus all the other goings on around the globe, someone is bound to make it a congressional agenda anytime soon.

It wouldn't surprise me if the idea of re-introduction of the draft wasn't presented to congress following the November elections.

The only way a lot of people in Congress will sign off on a draft is if it's both sexes and no deferments. The politicians supporting the war would have no way to keep their own sons and daughters off the front lines other than have them be openly gay. I seriously doubt even the most rabid Iraq War supporter would want his daughter killed while gays stayed home safe.

My son is in the Army and feels that the draft will have to be reinstated very soon. I don't know for sure but it would not surprise me.

No. A pure voluntary armed service is better because the soldiers actually want to serve.

Of course that doesn't excuse the back-door draft they have going on right now with the reserves and extended tours of duty.

YES. We will have to. But I would rather have a draft then Islamic Extremists and Communist nutjobs knocking at my front door wanting to convert me.

It could happen if we suddenly need a whole lot of ground-pounders, yes.

Suppose for instance we needed to fight a war in the Middle East, one in Asia and be ready to quell our own civil disturbances...we might.

No. Among other reasons, the military does not want draftees. Volunteers are better, especially in our present high-tech military.
