Why would you spend $100 on a bottle of Pinot Noir. You can get a great bottle for $40.

Belle Glos Pinot Noir
Belles Soeur Pinot Noir
Bouchaine Pinot Noir

Or for even less try Beringer or Black Opal (Black Opal being your best bet if you are looking to go the inexpensive route, Beringer doesn't always have the best flavor)

Failveley 2003 Bourgogne Pinot Noir is a great deal at only $16.99. This is a lovely Pinot Noir at a bargain price for the quality of the wine. It offers aromas of blackcurrant and luscious flavors of ripe black cherries. Very smooth and elegant. This wine will go well with a traditional Thanksgiving meal.

Another good Pinot is Belle Glos 2004 Clark & Telephone Vineyard Pinot Noir at $42.99. Year after year, this wine from California’s Santa Maria Valley is a winner! Starting with the wonderful aromas of plums, cinnamon, and caramel this wine is a standout. The smooth fruity flavors of cranberries and blackberries blend with soft tannins to make a wine that you will love.

Some of my favorites include:

Testarossa ($30-70)
Calera ($25 and up)
Patz & Hall ($40 and up)
Domaine Serene ($35 and up)

All of these wineries make a number of single vineyard Pinot Noirs, but also make one using grapes from different vineyards. The "blends" are usually the less expensive, whereas the single vineyard wines tend to be higher in price.

Buy a bottle of Tohu Pinot Noir and then buy some nice steaks to go with it. Some flowers and chocolates. Put the rest of the hundred in your piggy bank.

Any wine for $40 is going to be good. Why are you worried? It's the $10 price point that gets hard to find quality in. To make a specific recommendation, I would need to know where you live. In markets such as San Francisco, LA, New York, Washington DC and Boston, you can find just about any wine. But in other markets, it can be tricky to find a specific wine (good wines are made in small quantities). So I am refering you to a broad list, not knowing what city you live in. Here is Wine Spectator Magazine's list of the Top 100 Wines of 2006:

Clos du Val. Green label. Absolutely fantastic. Not to be confused w/ Clos du Bois.

Tried it @ a steakhouse & fell in love w/ its taste. SMOOTH. Cheers!
