i have wavy hair which is not ultra curly but it is enough to have to be straightened when i wash it.

im sick of fighting my hair so i thought i might have a loose perm which would stop me from having to style it all the time.

a julia roberts type perm where its loose and long.

do people still have perms, i mean younger people? and can i still put my usual colour dye on every other month with a perm?

i think that the perms that are really loose and long are really cute...but think about it, after you get a perm, you cant really do much with it till it "wears" off so to speak. i just think you should really consider the pros and cons of perms before you actually get one, because you might not want to keep it that way for a couple months...

I think that with all the emphasis on straight hair, and because so many women with naturally curly hair want straightening, perms have taken a back seat. Perms take a long time, and that keeps a stylist from doing several other services. I really do think that the industry has steered people away from perms for economic reasons.

Anyhow--you should do what makes you happy. I have bone straight hair, and no matter how I style it, it looks like flat, flyaway CRAP. So I perm. Most people think I have naturally curly hair.
With this texture, I have so many more styling choices.

I say--go for it. Just find a stylist over age 30 with experience. And yes, you can color, too, if you're not looking to be platinum blonde. But you'll need to have your color done in a salon, too. Home color comes out uneven on a perm, for the most part.

Julia Roberts has loose and long curly hair? Are we talking Pretty Woman Julia Roberts or current Julia Roberts? If it's Pretty Woman Julia, then that look is not "in fashion" any longer in most circles. Current Julia Roberts hair is probably blown dry with a roller brush and then some velcro rollers added for body.

Talk to your stylist about who is getting perms nowadays and if a double process will damage your hair. And be sure you understand exactly what the perm will do to your hair looks wise and health wise. Cut out some pictures of what you want and ask the stylist if it can be accomplished.

If you have wave I wouldnt get a perm first of all you would be wasting your money and second of all you can get the neat natural curl look in 5-10 min with the right product, instruction, and a diffuser, which is an attachment for your blow dryer. Make an apt. with a prof. for a trim and style. Ask the receptionist if she can book you with someone who is good with natural curl. Tell her what your goal is. But yes people do still get perms they just arent as tight as back in the 80s and 90s. You can still color but if you do it befor perm it will fade when it is permed. It will be altogether dryer as well with a perm and color. I wouldnt want to do all that to my hair. Talkin Big $ and your hair can suffer. Depending on the length it can take a few hours to get a perm!

That picture looks pretty great. :D I think, however, that that certain one is modernised by the top not being permed. Otherwise, perms can tend to look old fashioned if they're all over. I suppose you could get the top chemically straightened and then perm the rest?

People (like me) still walk around with naturally curly hair and I get complements about it all the time. If you can get a natural perm, go for it. Who cares what is in fashion?

Clean & well groomed hair will always be in,,,as for a perm, if its done neatly..

sprials are always nice...That is what Julia had...

As for color and perm together just space it out...make sure you use a perm conditionor,,,and drink alot of water..and watch what meds you take...aspirin will affect the hair big time,,a perm will not take..

best wishes....

I'm not sure about using die. The two chemicals might clash. But I know I'm in my teens and I have a perm. I love it and I think it looks awesome! I'd say go for it!
