Religiously arranged marriage was an old time practice recorded from the Jewish tradition but not necessarily started by them. One of the main reasons is the practice of faith. In time of King Solomon marrying women of other faiths have saddened God specially when out of love for the women he married, King Solomon even went as far as builidng them their own temple for his woman's own religious rites.
Arranged marriage were most likely influenced by Royal traditions or super rich families who tries to keep their status by choosing a rich partner for their children. They will always insist that compatibility is found among persons of the same style of life. Even up to this generation, there are prominent families would prepare a waiver to be signed by a fiance that he or she will not have a share of the families inheritance when the patriarch dies. Some Major religions would see to it that members of their congregation should marry within their faith or should marry someone willing to join their religion. Muslim woman in Arab countries must marry a Muslim man but Muslim man can marry outside their faith provided that the woman is willing to change her faith to Islam. Mormons, ( I am not sure about the Baptist) would also prefer their marriages among their religous bounds.

First... mormons are not christians.... what they do is up to their cult law... second, while there may be "baptists" who still "arrange" marrages it needs to be stated that there are a number of social groups who still practice that way... there are still groups within The True Christian Faith, and that includes some baptists, who follow that practice... wrong in my pov... but it has nothiing to do with any teaching of God's Word... it is strictly a way of a particular group within a greater society...At least in the U.S. it has no legal power and if an individual dose not want to abide by that they can leave... I am a member of a small concervative Baptist congrigation and I know of no family or congrigation within the association we are part of who practice arranged marrages...

I don't think is wise to arrange marriages since your parents don't know all about you or what you desire. More important than passion is a common goal which is part of being compatible.

It isn't my place to put down anyone else's culture, but I can say that I would never agree to an arranged marriage. More often than not they are done for money and nothing else. Luckily, my parents believe as I do, and when I get married, it will be to the man I choose.

I think arranged marriage no matter what religion is horrible. It's about money and power and etc. And I think the whole 12 year old married to a 40 year old is disgusting. Perverted!

Which Christians are you talking about? I don't know any Christians who had an arranged marriage. I know, I picked my own husband. Where do you get your facts from? Not the bible.

who told you christians arranges marriage?
goodness gracious! let me tell u something bro,
not all religions who "say" jesus are christians. ok? jehova witnesses for example. I dont know about mormons but im sure its a church based on some man's doctrine!
Catholics added to and took out of the bible! what God said should not be done. To clarify that compare a catholic bible with a holy bible!

if this is the custom then let them choose. compatibility - and like my dad said, " good looks don't last - good cooking do. " and am certain he would have taken this into account when making his choice for my wife had he done so. have no problem in how other folks believe as this is their business not mine, nor is my belief any of their business.

If that is your custom and the way you have been raised- what is the big deal?
History has shown most of us we are not too good at picking out a spouse...

It takes away a person's free will. Someone's partner for life should not be chosen by anyone but them.
