I heard that if a police officer presents you with a ticket, they need to be dressed in full uniform. So if they're not wearing their hat, does the ticket count? You'd have to basically take a picture of the cop as they give you the ticket in order to argue in court (which I doubt anyone has EVER done).
Can anyone verify that?
I didn't get ticketed for anything, just curious.

I can only answer for my state and give you an educated guess about the others, but yes, you would get the ticket. First, there is no law preventing me from giving you a ticket in my underwear, not that it would happen. I would be required to show ID or a badge, however. I think this was an old wives' tale which continues on. There are some departments, though, that would write up the officer if it were known that he didn't have his hat on, but mine has no specific requirement.

it does not matter if the cop is wearing his hat or not. in most departments it is a part of their uniform, but not required to wear on a daily basis, more than likley it is for their dress uniform, however some departments have to wear them all the time. Bad news this doesn't get you or anyone out of a ticket....anyone telling you this just wants to see you go to court and embarass yourself.........

I've never even heard that a cop has to be in uniform, let alone have his hat on, to write a ticket.

No. He doesn't have to be wearing his hat. He doesn't even have to be in uniform. As long as he's in his jurisdiction, he can give a ticket on or off work hours, too.

If it was true that tickets were tossed because of a hat, then a person who was speeding pays no consequences because a cop didn't have his hat?
Are you serious?

If the cop is naked the ticket still counts...U could report him/her for being naked...they would be in deep doo-doo but you still have to pay the ticket.

If you shoot a police officer when he isn't wearing his cap, does that mean you killed a civilian or a cop? Answer that...
