to send the Messiah? Why send him at a time when there were very few people in the world(compared to today). Why didnt he send him back today, when he could reach so many more people at once? Everything, back then, was spread by word of mouth. He had to know that some of the things would get misinterrpreted. Why didnt he send him back today? All he would have to do is one "miracle" and the world would know within minutes, by way of TV, radio and the internet.

Read the words to the title song in Jesus Christ Superstar. Your question is in the words of that song

Blackacre: It is: Why did you choose such a backwards time in such a strange land?

Actually it was the perfect time on earth to send Christ. Augustus had introduced Pax Romana, beginning in 27 BC. Interference with property ownership ceased, land and order established, Augustus reversed the state control except for grain. Economy and optimism grew. The Greeks had made everyone learn Greek, so all had a common language. The Romans had built an infrastructure, so Jesus could travel in ease and safety. I suggest you study the world of that day and Pax Romana.

Okay you have to understand that God is the beginning and the end so although right now it may seem like he sent the Messiah down at a strange time you have to realize He knows everything and he knows how everything is going to turn out in the end. Even if He was sent today the same persecution he faced then he would face now but it would probably be multiplied because too many ppl are like the Pharisees and Sadducee's, they all want to "see" instead of just trusting in God and knowing that through their faith God is going to handle everything. Just think about it, if God hadn't sent down Jesus during that time and waited til now, we'd all be sacrificing Rams and Goats every time we sinned, and I know everyone sins everyday. I personally wouldn't want to have to find a Ram or a Goat every time I messed up. I like the fact that I can just go to God and repent for my transgressions and know that I am instantly forgiven.

I didn't really mean for this to be so lengthy, but just know that God created everything and has the blueprints to our lives, so He knows how everything is going to begin and end. Just trust in Him and begin to seek His face even more; as you begin to diligently study His word (the Bible) He will reveal to you the answers that you seek.

Hope I helped you out a lil bit!!!

Television, along with skeptics would also be able to pick out a phoney from miles away. I think that even today's christians are much more discerning than the people of that long gone era. In those it just wasn't an option to be an atheist, and in Greece for example it was a capital offence. Read Plato's Apology.

I suppose IF we assumed there really was a divine purpose it could be argued that Rome as the first truly global empire provided a means whereby Christianity could be spread far and wide, and also Judaea was was a hub for communications between east and west so it would have been the ideal place for God to reveal himself.

You know as well as I do that no matter what time of times, or what Jesus did/does, or how widely it would be broadcast, there would still be opposition & dis belief. His miracles aren't meant for public interpretation (it would appear) they seem to be for personal requests and for the faithful to see, not the non believers. He seems to want us to CHOOSE Him, not force or prove it to us.
But why? Cuz it's all God's timing, not ours. We just have to have faith everything will fall into place, and it will. :o]

The Lord works in mysterious ways. Do you really think that people would just "believe" right now if someone came out and said "I am the Messiah, I will perform one miracle to prove it?" Naw, plus it wouldn't be true faith.

Jesus came to the lost children of Israel. They rejected him, thus the mantle fell to the Gentiles. God's timing is always perfect----he does not make mistakes. Everything is dome according to his plan.

God already send someone here but it is up to the individual to recognize and seek him.

As Jesus himself said blessed is the man who believes but do not see. Not seeing him and still believing in him is a sign of true faith.
