Jack Russel Terriers are naturally very hyper dogs. There is nothing that a vet can do to help you with this; but your mother or somebody can take the dog out to jog, or walk on a leash... or maybe if she hasn't had the dog put into obedient classes, then that would be a good idea too. The best way to help an overly active or hyper dog is either some sort of doggy classes (like obedience or agility), or to play more with her. Both of those will strengthen the owner and dog bond, and also calm the dog down some. She will be a much better behaved/well mannered dog too. I hope this helped. If you want to send me a message then feel free to... I can help you with more options.~ Sierra

Not really, the Jack Russel Terrior breed all in itself is hyper.....If your mother can't handle her dog/puppy, than that breed is not the right one for her.....The JRT is mostly for younger people who take 1-2 walks every day, that has a yard, and has allot of time to play with them. In time the dog will calm down.....but it won't happen over night either, be patient or get a different dog.....

Sorry... should have done the research on the breed. Jack Russells are one of the most active and hyper breeds out there. They rarely hold still and bark a lot. They are very sweet and smart, just enthusiastic. Play with her a lot, walk her, and if possible get her to play with other dogs. A human will never be able to tire a dog out with playing as much as another dog will. Good luck.

Jack Russels are hyper, energetic breeds by nature. That is why it is so important to research the breed before bringing it home.
Some people have luck with lavender essential oils in a burner, or in the glad plug ins. Lavender has a calming effect.
However, Jack Russels need a lot of exercise, and something to do to wear out their energy. They are excellent at agility and other dog sports.
Do you have a fenced in yard? Do a lot of ball chase games! Walk the dog regularly...for a brisk walk....
You can set up your own "agility course" in the back yard and have her run through it for fun!

Jack Russel's are very hyper by nature. But they can also be the best dogs! I had one for years, he was hyper as they come, but also a great watchdog, and real comforting on a cold night.
You can ask your vet - my friend has a great dane that is real hyper and the vet gave her xanax, in very low doses, and it helped.

My mom has a rat terrier which is pretty much the same thing. He suggested valum. But I don't suggest that for every day use. Only for the occassional thunderstorm or something. There are more natural remedies too. Just ask your vet which would be safest.

Jack Russel Terriers are hyper dogs. That is in their nature and the only way you can get rid of it is give it A LOT of exercise.

That's a JRT for ya. If you get her trained professionally, she will be better at controlling her hyperness, but that's just a naturally hyper dog.
