Yesterday i was at one of my friend's house and one of his friends who i don't know bought his 7 month old pit bull puppy over. So we're all sitting around chillin and this dude starts slapping the dog in the face and pulling on his ears and using his feet to push the dog across the floor and the dog is clearly irritated and barking and snapping at him. So i said to him "why are you treating your dog that way"? And he said "hey, this is a pitbull, not a Lab, he's supossed to be mean and not a sissy". Needless to say i disagreed and we got into a heated argument over the way a dog should be treated. This dog was in pain when this dude pulled his ears cause he yelped everytime. It made me angry that somebody would treat a puppy that way and if it wasn't for my boy i would took this dude outside and made him yelp! But my boy broke us up and i just left to keep from slugging this jerk in the mouth. Do you think i was wrong? I'm a straight-up dog lover!

This is exactly why Pit Bulls have such a bad reputation. Their owners think they need to be macho assholes and have a "tough" dog, so they mistreat them and then wonder why the community wants to destroy their dog after it mauls a little kid or an old lady. He needs to be reported to the animal welfare association. You're not wrong, no dog deserves that kind of treatment.

Making a dog "Mean" is the main reason why the pit bull breed has been banned in my province. If you have a pit bull it has to be keeps muzzled whenever outdoors and when walking must be on a leash no longer than 3 feet long.
Just because it is a certain breed does not give someone the right to beat up on a dog no matter what the circumstances. With the amount of "Mean" dogs that are put to sleep every year.
I have met very nice loving friendly pit bulls, but that was because the owned trained the dog and did not treat it badly.
The news headline at the time read
"Any pit bull puppies born became illegal at 17:41 on November 28, 2005, EST. and will be put down."
You were not wrong to step in!

I think you did the right thing. This is the kind of jerk who should never own a pitt bull. They think that a pit needs to be all tough, and are mean to it. Pulling a dog's ears a little in play is fine, doing it until it hurts is wrong. But don't worry, a man who treats a big dog like that will learn when it turns on him. Its just sad because this man is going to turn his do into the animal that the media portrays pitt bulls to be.

I didn't take the time to read all the answers you have already received but if I were you I would call the authorities and report him. This is animal abuse and even worse because it is a Pit Bull.
This guy sounds like he wants his dog to be what he can't be. I would have asked him if I could take the dog for a walk. That would have been the last time he saw the dog.

Oh I wish I could hug you! You absolutely did the right thing. I give you props for having the guts to stand up to this guy. People like him make me sick. I once saw a girl who would not feed her dog because it was a Pit and Pits need to be mean. That is what is wrong with these dogs. People like that who transform these friendly heart warming dogs into powerful and dangerous dogs. I would now call animal control on this guy. Tell him that you suspect that the dog is being abused. Thank you for being a friend to Pit Bulls and all dogs.

You were right. The only way a pitbull is going to be mean is if you make it mean. I have seen pitbulls that were really gentle and acted like a normal dog should. It's all about how you treat the dog. I guess he just wants to make the dog mean so it will hurt children or an adult. When that happens his butt Will go to jail or the victims have the dog put down.

HE SHOULD HAVE THE DOG REMOVED FROM HIS CUSTODY!!!
Anyone who tries to make an animal viscious needs to be locked in a psych ward.
One day the dog will bite or attack because of the ause from the owner. He'll land in jail plus get sued for everything he owns and the dog's fate is sealed.
Call your animal officer and report the abuse of hitting and striking the puppy to make it mean. So he doesn't talk to anymore if he figures out who complains?? Who wants too have anything to do with someone like that??

I would have acted the same way, but i would have slapped the hell out of him, I'm a woman and he better not hit me back....LOL. If I were you I would call the ASPCA and ask them if that is cruelty, and if you know the guys full name or address report him.....we don't want another pitbull being put to sleep because he decided to fight the dog or the dog bit a child.......It's not fair to the dog and the breed. Do what's right!

You were absolutely right to say something. Talk about encouraging the beliefs that this breed is mean. Prime example here of how some owners just treat them that way.
I'd turn him in. If he is in fact treating the dog this badly, it might be more than just to make him mean. So very sad that there are people like this in the world.

he's trying to make the dog MEAN, on purpose.
Those are the people that give pit bulls a bad reputation.
Call animal control. They'll take the pup and someone nice will adopt it before it's too late and he's mean and bites someone (or worse, that creep uses the dog for fighting. Call the cops if you suspect that).
And send him my way if he causes you any trouble. NOBODY messes with Munya Carr.. NOBODY!
