I only ask as out of 20 answers to " what is the cheapest veg on the planet" only 15% answered carrot. So if carrot is not the cheapest veg why do they do it.

Carrots are not as widely used, so alot of companys get them in bulk and use them, and just in case you didn't notice, chicken broth, is just that, broth, nothing but liquid.

The reason they call it chicken soup is so you will buy it.

Kinda like beef stew in a can, it only has 1 or 2 pieces of beef and the rest is taters and carrots.

In some cooking schools,whatever soup you are making,carrots,onions,celery were the flavouring vegetables you started with.

It's cheaper than meat and plentiful. I also question whether it is not the cheapest vegetable. Of course, are we talking about vegetables one would put in a soup or all vegetables, like lettuce, etc.

the reason they use carrots is simple, trying getting a pumpkin in a small tin can.

same reason they use sweetcorn in everything i suppose..cheap and cheerfull (ie;yellow) lol
shame it comes out whole most of the time tho.. pointless eating to my mind!!
