that sounds quite serious and you should try to find the reason for it. I can't give advice, but I can say that when I am dehydrated the first sign I get is like what you're describing, only much less severe. Are you doing some things that might dehydrate you? Alcohol? Overeating, especially red meat, nicotine, marijuana, maybe some new allergy? Get a filtering water-pitcher and drink large amounts of water on an empty stomach several times a day. But find out what is wrong.
p.s. (drinks gulp of coffee laden with sugar) Don't use caffeine or a lot of sugar. Don't drink things that are sour. (pop, lemonade, orange juice)
eat lots of vegetables.. perhaps you've got your pH too low.. what is your diet like?

Call your vet as soon as you can and explain all this to him. I don't think it is major. Does your dog have any kind of allergies? I would not put anything on the lips as it could make the problem worse. If you apply vaseline, you may be creating a seal that will lock in whatever is bothering your dog's lips. Your best bet is to call the vet, tell them the problem, and make an appointment to get the problem cleared up.

This sounds a lot like an allergic reaction. STOP all use of any use of ointments, gloss, or lipstick. Drink plenty of water, too [this helps to relieve it a bit and flush your system of whatever the "toxin" is - at least to you]. It could also be a food, but less likely, as this is an area specific problem. Go to an allergist and see if they can help.

you either have a virus, which is very possible. 22% of people in US are affected by it, try 'washing' your mouth with: 1 table spoon of baking soda mixed in a glass of warm/almost hot water.
If that helps, then you do/did have a virus or some kind of infection. Try that for a few days. (before you go to sleep, after brushing teeth)
It could also be just a season thing, like if its too cold outside, and will go away.
Hope that tip helps you, if you do use it, and it helps post here :)

You seem to be allergic to something. I actually developed an allergy to some ingredient in chap-stick and lip gloss where my lips would swell up and become itchy. It was gross. Maybe make an appointment with an allergist?

Possibly eczema but could be something else. Are there no other dermatologists in the area that you can see? If not, ask to be put on the waiting lists to be called if there are cancellations.
Maybe you could just see your primary physician to see if he/she can help you instead of waiting.

GET SOME CARMEX asap!!! Apply it liberally several times a day for a few weeks, or even all the time, it will heal those lips.

Don't know about the swollen part, but maybe you lack riboflavin. I hear that nutrient, err lack-of, is one of the cause for chapped lips.
