My translation says "All Scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness,"

This is saying the Bible was inspired by God. Man wrote it, but God inspired them to write it. It is the Word of God and all of it ("All Scripture") is for our benefit. The rest of that verse is saying basically that it's beneficial for just about everything in life.

The Bible teaches that scripture is the very Word of God, inspired by the Holy Spirit and contains the very nature and spirit of God.

Scripture can be quoted, spoken, meditated upon and invoked to teach others, rebuke evil in oneself and others, correct behaviour and train oneself and others in rightous living (living in accordance with the word of God, which is the commandments and gospel).

Peace!

When it say "all Scripture is God breathed", I believe that means that God inspired all people to write what they did in the Bible. The "and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness" means that we should try to apply the Bible and what it ways to our everyday lives.

I think it's fairly clear, see the verse that follows for a better understanding. Paul is saying that all of the books of the Bible are a God breathed, that the Old Testament is not nullified or superseded by the new covenant in Jesus. That we can still learn from it's sciptures.

2Ti 3:16
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: (KJV)

2Ti 3:17
That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works. (KJV)

Even Judges 19:22-30 and Ezek.23:20?
Was all scripture inspired by God?

Let me include the verses directly before and after

[12] Indeed all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted,
[13] while evil men and impostors will go on from bad to worse, deceivers and deceived.
[14] But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it
[15] and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings which are able to instruct you for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.
[16] All scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,
[17] that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.

What I think he is saying is that by studying the Bible we become equipped to lead a more righteous life, even in the face pf persecution. He is not saying that every story in Genesis, for example, is latterly true but they are inspired by God to teach us lessons about how to live our lives. Instead of getting hung up over ‘could this really have happened?’ read the stories for what they teach us about faith and trust in God. Then you will be better prepared to face the world.

It means that all the bible, not just pick and choose verses are meant to be there. So what Paul says is just as important as what Jesus says, or John. We need to grow from it, build on it.

I believe that it is meant for ourselves, not so we can rebuke someone else, and make them feel inferior. We as Christians hold each other accountable through the word, through edification.

My take on it is, God's word is law and what he says is the truth. Not many people want to challenge the word of God (at least not from what I've seen) Have you ever encountered the people that know it all but to everyone else it's quite obvious that they don't. Use scripture in that case.

The KJV uses this wording: 16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

To me, it's pretty clear cut. Everything that is considered scripture, therefore, given by God, is and should be used for and as doctrine, reproof, correction, and instruction. And that it should be used as such, in righteousness.

It means exactly what it says. You know in some religions they believe that only the new testament should be used today and what was in the old testament no longer applies. Well this verse is saying ALL old and new is still applicable and that it is from God.
Hope this was helpful.
