I have 2, 2 month old kittens, and they are pretty healthy and normal. They eat, sleep, and wrestle ALL the time, so they are very playful. But I noticed 3 weeks ago that one of my kittens whiskers broke off to about 1/2 inch. I checked the other kitten and his were normal. So I called the vet, and she told me to wait to see if they are growing back. Well now they are growing back, but until last night, I noticed that the other side has gotten a little bit shorter again. And his brother has all his whiskers still perfectly fine. I found some pieces of whiskers by my door ( btw they are strictly indoor kittens), they were bent and kinda yellow.

Does anyone know what could be the problem? I heard of kitten losing whiskers due to growing coaser ones, or maybe the kittens play to rough?

Any advice will be helpful!

I rescue a lot of kittens, and this is really common. They have all grown back normally with out any residual effect. They just like to chew on each other and some kittens will loose there's and some will not. Good luck, it just takes time for them to grow back in....

We had kittens at the shelter and one aggressive little gal managed to get a lot of whiskers off her littermates. So I'm inclined to think the whisker kitten is taking them off his brother and this is not a health or developmental issue.

If you go to www.spiritessence.com Dr. Jean Hovfe has a "Bully Remedy" you could try for the whisker chopper. It only costs $16.95 and it is easy to treat a kitten with it by just putting it on the fur between his ears. There are no shipping, handling or taxes charged in that price and the bottle will come with instructions .

That little devil!

i had a dog that used to chew the cat's whiskers off. Poor cat walked around with nubs all the time. He didn't seem to care though when the dog was doing it.

maybe one of the other kittens is doing it. it's strange that if they are all related that only one would have such an illness, but who knows?

it's fine, the whiskers breaking should not hurt your kitten, my cats loose whiskers a lot

lol, kittens....

They are not breaking off- the kittens are chewing each others whiskers off.
It's OK, it's normal and they grow out of it. Then the whiskers grow back fine.

Playing rough will do it. Keep an eye on it and if you get to worried about it see the vet.
