and send it to be signed? The way the news told it before, it was a done deal. Will you write to Congress and tell em to stop sitting on their butts on this one and get the legislation signed?

Um, Jesi, no, read TODAY's paper...

" "Send us the damn bill. We'd like to autograph it," said a senior administration official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to allow for more freedom to discuss politics and policy.
"Our object was to sign it last week so we can have port security and border security together and herald an effort to control all of the borders of the United States. We even had ways to talk about what we were doing at the airports," the official said.
Congressional Republicans, though, are convinced the issue is a political winner and want to hold onto the bill so it will be signed closer to next month's congressional elections. Once the bill is sent to the president, he has a limited amount of time to sign it before it dies as a pocket veto.
"It's a timing issue: We want it signed closer to the election when folks are paying attention and those who want to take advantage of the messaging opportunity can do so...

Should really dig a canal big enough to transport supertankers. Infest the thing with Australian crocodiles, stingrays and such. Better still get the mexicans to build it right on the border using nothing but cheap labor. Hey, they want to come up for a job. There's a job that would take quite a while. The whole deal could virtually pay for itself.. and once those ships start sailing..

No! President Bush should veto this bill. Walls and fences have never stopped people from crossing borders. The Great Wall of China didn’t work, the Iron Curtain didn’t work and this wall won’t work. Mexico is not our enemy—it is our neighbor. It’s time to stop the bashing and start addressing the social-economic issues that are the underlying cause of illegal immigration.

It can't die as a pocket veto as per Congress itself - Congress is still in session until December. The time between the end of the 109th and the 110th coming in would be the pocket veto. You may argue that congress isn't in session, but as you can see there sure is alot of business going on.

Another news flash: this administration and this congress is only pretending to do what you want. If they do get something passed that sounds good, Bush accompanies that with a "signing statement" that says he doesn't agree with it and he's the President and doesn't have to obey. It's as if no law has been passed at all. Wake up, America.

Don't expect anything to happen until after Nov. 7th.
Congress is out on recess until then.

"...No . Because they do hella jobs other people wouldn't for less than 5 dollars an hour. People say they take "all the work " what ? , like picking fruits and vegetables in the blistering sun all day?..."
THERE'S GOOD ARGUMENT FOR AN INCREASE IN MINIMUM WAGE.

A border fence will cause migration problems and the extinction of several animals. Do I agree with illegal immigration? No, but I don't think that wiping a few species off the earth is worth trying to send a message.

hrm a fence to separate us from another nation.. only two other countries have tried this that i can think of.. one was imperialistic china, the other was Germany... neither one worked out did it (though the great wall did hold for a while) oh wait, i know.. why don't we focus on a plan that could actually work like immigration reform instead of waisting money trying to keep them out.. hell my dog can get out of his pen no matter how well it's set up, what to keep a Human from figuring out how to get over/around/under a fence?

Bush DID sign the bill, back on October 4th. It was part of the Homeland Security funding bill.
