Hi there. I'm still fairly new to the Wiccan faith, and I'm just curious:
what on earth is Dragon's Blood? I go shopping for Wiccan supplies and I keep coming across Dragon's Blood items (e.g. Dragon's Blood incense, wands coated in Dragon's Blood, etc...).
So what exactly is Dragon's Blood, and what is its significance? What is it used for?

Dragon's blood is the fanciful name given to the hard resin taken from the berries of the Calums palm tree. Dragon's blood is also found in the berries of other related species of tropical palm trees. When this resin is burned on charcoal, expect quite a bit of smoke. Even so, it's still very pleasantly scented.

Dragon's Blood is used in all types of rituals, to add energy, power and strength. It can bring courage during difficult times. Chips of the hard resin are used in charm bags, but it's most often burned as an incense on charcoal.
The dark colour of this resin makes it an excellent ingredient in inks, and Dragon's Blood ink is used frequently for writing in Books of Shadows or any spells where writing is involved.

Dragon's Blood is an herbal resin used in oils, incense and things it is also a type of ink, none of which are actually made with blood. I like the scent actually and have both the oil and the incense. I do also on occasion write with dragon's blood ink.

It comes from the Palm tree (Daemonotrops Draco). The tree exudes a dark red resin that burns intensely. It can also come from the Dracena Draco (part of the Agave family)

It is a flower that is a deep dark red. It can be used for staining and dying materials, and was thought to be a cure for diarrhoea. Magickally, it is used in spells for consecration, fidelity, honesty, empowerment, love, mental protection, strength, & virility.

Honestly, most wiccan supply shops have some true useful items, and the rest is really trinkety, cliche, touristy stuff. Try doing some research on what you want to buy, then quizzing the shopkeeper. If they seem to know what you are talking about, and you show a desire to TRULY know, they should point you in the right direction. If not, they have no reason to be running a magickal supply shop or they could end up with some unhappy or flat dangerous customers.

While any incense will do in a Wiccan ritual, my coven often uses Dragon's Blood incense when we want to work with protective energies. Also, some Deities have correspondences to different herbs that are sacred to Them, and we have one priestess in our coven who loves to use Dragon's Blood incense when working with the Goddess Brighid.
