To me it seems kind of easy:
1. Politicians need to stop "running" the military operations from Washington DC.
2. Political Correctness and War need to stop being mixed together because it is costing lives on our side. Tieing the hands of our troops by ordering them not to shoot in dozens of different situations is endangering their lives. Let the troops do what they do best - KILL THE ENEMY. Not pussyfoot around the battlefield while morons like Bush, Kennedy, and Rumsfield (yes the whole lot of them!) are standing around their Mohogany desks postulating about the political fallout of specific attacks.
3. Back up OUR troops when something happens - not the enemy. Too many times, we have had our troops arrested for "war crimes" and the people that could do something to help them were painfully silent! Why weren't they speaking up in support for our troops? Would you want to fight for a military that is being led by a bunch of bastard politicians that will stab you in the back at any political opportunity? Hell no!
4. Pay our troops what they deserve. Give them (and their families) the benefits they deserve. Don't screw their families out of death benefits.
5. When a soldier dies, Rumsfield should sign the letter of condolence with a HAND WRITTEN SIGNATURE. Not a stamped signature form letter. This is a heartless cruel bastard thing to do. BTW, for this alone, I would have dumped his *** out of office.
6. Don't keep sending and re-sending troops into redeployment. If we need more troops and we are short and this is a true crisis than re-enact the draft. If we don't have the stomach for a draft than pull out the troops we have now because it is not fair to have them dying unnecessarily while we are sitting around and unwilling to do what is necessary.
7. Don't send our national guard overseas to police other countries. They are supposed to be here guarding our nation!
8. Give our troops the body armor they deserve. Anybody that is voting against this is a traitor in my oppinion.
9. Don't lie to the recruits and blow sunshine up their asses telling them that they are going to be "computer geniuses" in the military, is a joke. Those commercials on TV are always a joke. The way that the politicians are treating our troops speaks volumes and it is what will give people incentive to go sign up or stay away.
10. How about some good old fashioned propaganda? I'd love to see some old WWII propaganda showing those bastard enemies in the light they deserve to be shown in. Instead of being swooned all over by our hateful communist press. I think some good propaganda would help to get the recruits to jump in and want to make a difference on the battlefield.
Bottom line: If the politicians in washington AND the people in the US do not have the stomach for war than they need to get the hell out of Iraq and Afganistan. Otherwise, they need to go in with 110% until the job is done and use all the conventional weapons that are available. No more hands tied behind the backs. No more worries about world oppinion, just get the job done and get the hell out. War is not a popularity contest.

Do you honestly believe that the size of the pay check is what prompts these youngsters to enlist, or do you think many of them do it for God and country. In the beginning of this Iraq war many reservists got caught in the middle, in terms of being sent to war when all they really wanted was an education. Today, that's not the case. The people going in today know their chances of seeing combat are pretty darn good, therefore I don't believe it's money that motivates them.
Just yesterday, in talking with a recruiter, he told me they just were not showing up at the door, like they used to show up. I guess this Iraq thing is so unpopular right now, that it's really affecting recruiting. The next step just could be the draft! Wouldn't that be something.
They're doing so many silly things now, some of it is embarrassing. As a Marine recruit sometime before Vietnam got hot, the Marines would issue the rank of PFC to the top three recruits in the platoon, come graduation day. This was quite an honor, to be chosen out of a total of sixty or seventy men, as one of the best of the best. I was so honored!
Today, they issue the rank to any slug, provided he is able to drag a buddy along or at least give up a name of a candidate. If that guy is recruited, the slug gets the rank. Pretty pathetic if you ask me, because if something happens to that poor unsuspecting soul, the slug will live with it, the rest of his life.

How about you stop lying to them talking about free college and all that other bullshit that you never get, and start telling them the truth about the military in whole. Yeah you'll get a sign up bonus, but after the Army and taxes take their cuts, you have maybe a quarter of what you supposed to get.Yeah they pay for your college; right after they take the money out for the GI Bill. The only reason why I joined was because I had a recruiter that was real and honest and he knew what he was talking about. Many recruiter's do not and they lie; that's why enlistments are so low and people aren't re-enlisting.

Am glad you asked! First, that for each additional Month (17days minimum) served in the hostile fire zone One receive an additional $1200 for Safety Award. Second, that for each week served in the hostile fire zone that a Humanitarian act is achieved (witnessed by NCO or three living peers minimal) and properly documented a bonus of $100Bond is made available! Third, that after 10 years of dutiful military service with a minimum 3years of serving in Hostile Fire Zones a Retirement with Full Pay be made available as personal option. Fourth, preparatory to ETS date by six months the service member be sent to a trade school of his/her choice to better assimilate into society as a taxpaying ambassador ex officio!

wow, now this is a question that has drawn some of the most ignorant answers I have ever seen, from people who have obviously never served in the military...
where the military is going wrong with recruiting is that we're looking for quantity over quality.

One really good incentive would be to promise a recruit that the only time he/she will be sent into battle is when there is a true threat to our country.
The new recruit will not be sent into a war based on lies, constantly changing goals, no exit strategy, with enough fellow troops to succeed, and enough equipment to get the job done.

How about we stop sending recruits off to a pointless war? And how about we stop sending them into battle based on very poor intelligence, no body armor, and in an environment where the people they're trying to help are throwing bombs at them?
If we stopped having stupid crusades and spreading our troops thin on bases all over the world, we wouldn't need huge numbers of new recruits.

Probably by actually paying them. I know three people whom fought in Iraq on my campus and one has been trying since last Jan. to get his college money from the government, the other has been since march, and the third since April.
The first guy almost didnt get his bill paid for in time, but luckily he found a loan that didnt need a cosigner. The other two had cosigners. They are still trying to get the grants to pay off some of thier government loans... SAD!

Money is always an option. There is no reason that an enlistment bonus should be taxable. The non-taxable rule should be extended beyond those who enlist out of country and be offered to everyone.
