Provided that it is not a thyroid or endocrine issue ...
Yes, it is possible - The key is that he has to take in more calories than he burns (duh, right?)
Before he starts to lift weights , you need to make sure he is getting enough total calories and enough protein (1.4 - 1.6 g/kg) or else his supersizes metabolism will start to feed on what muscle he does have :)
No "tricks" necessary, just focus on caloricly dense foods.
Oatmeal, peanut butter, (whole) milk, (whole)eggs , Lean ground beef, higher calorie veggies (we still want him to be healthy so make sure he gets at least 3 of these in) carrots, corn (which is ac tally a bread but for these purposes it works) , cauliflower and higher calorie fruits (he should have at least 3 of these too for good health) bananas, apples, dried fruit
You can also grab some cereal bars and things like that for him to munch on during the day to squeeze in extra calories and you can always throw a tbs of safflower oil on his veggies to add an extra 100 calories per tbs.
There is a caloric needs calculator here if you want to get a rough idea of how many calories a day he needs to gain weight

Well first off there isn't an EASY way, if it was easy everyone would be jacked. But in short, you need to do 3 things- 1. slow down your metabolism 2. consume more calories 3. perform resistance training (lifting weights) The only real way to impact your metabolism is by eating at larger, regular intervals. Stick to three big meals a day and a strict sleep schedule (10-6, 12-8, whatever) and your body will be forced to adjust over time. I'm guessing you are young and running around eating at crazy times and staying up to crazy hours. Consume more calories. You don't have to focus on just protein, any modern person gets enough protein for muscle growth in their normal diet generally (especially for 135 person). Healthy (Unsaturated) fats and carbs are just as important. I ate a ton of ice cream to gain weight (went from 6'1" and 160 to 205 in about 2 years). Milk and Mass-Gainer products work well too- they have the 3 basic building blocks- good fats, carbs (sugar), and protein. Start lifting (if you arent already). Your body will only build muscle if it needs it. I could talk for hours about any of this stuff but the info is out there. Email me if you want more tips, but those are the 3 basic places to start. Gaining weight is hard work, takes time and patience, but if you are 6' and only 135 your body is likely to adapt quickly (probably start seeing real results in 3-6 months). Good luck.

I would suggest to see a Doctor first to rule out Hyperthyroidism. or any other medical problem.
Hyperthyroid means the Gland is overactive and you have a very fast Metabolism.
Symptoms can be weight loss despite eating a lot, restlessness, tremor, intolerance to heat. In case of any medical condition your doctor will discuss with you the treatment options available .
Good Luck to you

It depends on the kind of weight you want him to gain. I have a seriously fast metabolism, but I gained 20 pounds in two months by eating at McDonald's in-between meals.
This is what he needs to do if you want him to gain muscle:
-He needs 1-2 grams of protein for every pound he weighs each day (no more than 40 grams at a time).
-He needs to consistently work out with heavy weights and low reps to stimulate muscle growth (if he can do it more than 6 times, it's too light).
-He needs to let his body totally recover before working out a particular muscle again (less is more when gaining).
-He needs to take L-Glutamine at night to help keep his body from burning muscle.
-He needs to stay away from the cardio during this time (nothing that will raise his heartbeat for extended periods of time).
-He needs to be consistent and get over his hang-ups or it won't work!

There are three main ways to lose weight quickly.
1) Use only water as liquid and eliminate all other liquid drinks from your diet. You must drink as much water as possible every day. You must drink about half of your weight. If you have weight of 200 pounds then you must drink about 100 oz of water.
2) The interval between the eating is very important. If you eat once, then you must eat next after 4 hours. You must take breakfast regularly. In the night eat your food three hours before going to bed.
3) Walking is very good. You must walk as much as you can. Walk everywhere you can. Use of elevators and escalators must be reduced and instead of these you must climb stairs more often.
These are some of the fastest ways to lose weight. By just following the simple steps, you can lose your weight very quickly. You must consult your doctor if want to change your diet or exercise routine.

I suggest a visit to the doctor to check for Graves' disease or hyperthyroidism. For most of my life I have been skinny and could eat anything I wanted, as much as I wanted, whenever I wanted. Six years ago I was diagnosed with Graves' disease, and after treatment have been able to gain some weight.
As for your desire to lose weight: WALK! WALK! WALK!! Stop driving around everywhere (assuming that you do). Sell your car today, walk to train or bus stops in addition to three or four mile walks everyday. Best wishes to both of you!
