A foreign friend of mine has studied English in his homeland for a long time. He loves English culture, and one of the things he was told was that the English are very conservative towards sex.
A few months ago he had a chance to go to study in England. Incidentally, the press recently ran many articles about the popularity of the swinging lifestyle (having sex with someone other than one's partner) in London and some parts of England. What is perplexing is some newspapers even let readers know about the particular addresses of some swinging clubs. This kind of coverage seems to give swinging an aura of legitimacy, something people are proud of.
My friend is very confused about this, and so am I. Do you think English culture has changed so much that swinging is now acceptable?

Is there any reason why it should not be acceptable? What I mean by that is if two people want to involve a third person into their relationship and it doesn't involve any of the no, no's such as kids or animals then what is the harm. Is it better for this to happen or for the guy to visit toilets for sex or a prostitute for arguments sake. Not saying it's right, just wondering if it's so wrong.

I dont know about acceptable - maybe among a select few but not in the main. Most people just think these people are weird. Same with 'dogging' the media write about it, car parks are advertised but thats not to say its acceptable. These things have always gone on its just the media are now more open and report it. In my opinion swingers are walking a very fine line and it nearly always ends in tears if they're honest.

my ex-wife and I started swinging when we were together, and to answer your question, i do not think the majority of the current english culture finds swinging acceptable, I found that more swingers and nudist are still from of the woodstock era. The majority of the current young generation really frowned upon swapping or swinging, it still might change though, because their is alot of curousity in the young generation.

My god some people on here are so narrow minded. I am happily engaged to my partner of 6 yrs and we have been swinging for about 3 yrs.
We had never done it before but our relationship is bigger and stronger then any other relationship we have had before.
Swinging is not just about sex, it is being totally happy with yourself, your body and your partner, it is about trust and more than anything it is learning new things about eachothers sexuality. NO TEARS FROM MY EYES DEAR!!!

Yes it has, were once the English had prided themselves in propriety and tradition, they have now replace it with a life style that puts the American consensual lifestyle to shame. the English is renowned for it history of upstanding morality and tradition, it is now sadly being eaten away but the progression of free lifestyles.

people have been doing this for years but was afriad to say anything until now. Just like everything else exposure. Look around and you will find out people jus next door might be doing something you would never expect.

The Victorians suppressed all our sexual outlets because they deemed sex "improper", to have to suppress something means it is a major part of your culture. We English are very sexual creatures, but we are also repressed - a strange paradox.
