Ceramics are minerals which VITRIFY (vitreous means like glass) when heated. Examples are a toilet, any clay pottery.

A ceramic coating is like the surface of an iron bathtub.

In one method, metal is coated with a ceramic powder, then FIRED in a very hot oven to fuse the ceramic powder into a solid surface.

Another way is called FLAME SPRAYING, the ceramic powder is heated in a torch and sprayed like paint while still above its melting temperature onto the surface of the metal.
