Same question, much clearer.....

I'm trying to sort bt date in an Excel sheet. I have formated my my cells like dd-mm-yyyy

will be intered as
March 03 2005...... 03-03-2005.
April 15 2005 .........15-04-2005.
sept 1 2006............ 01-09-2006.

After an ascending
sorting i got
01-09-2006
03-03-2005
15-04-2005

Data from 2006 should be listed as the last one. My Excel sheet doesn't accept my input as a date number.

Thank you for any help

Lou didn't read your question very carefully. She just wanted 2 points.

I tried this in Excel. Here's the deal. Excel recognizes dates as mm-dd-yyyy. Everytime I tried to enter 01-09-2006 it recognized it as January 9th, 2006. When I entered 15-04-2005 it didn't recognize it as a date at all.
Try entering your dates 09/01/2006 & 04/15/2005. Click Format, Cell, and adjust the date formatting there. Then sort.

try and reformat your date cells so there is not 0 at the beginning. for example insted of 01-09-2006, try and reformat to 1/9/2006 or 1/09/06. excel is sorting your data by the 1st 2 numbers.

you have it sorting Ascending by the DATE of the MONTH, you need to re-format the date to show the Year first, then sory Ascending by date.

If you highlight the top row and go to data and then sort you can sort that way.
