I was wondering if there is anything like a VCR for HDTV in development or production. I'm looking for something that can record HDTV, and then I can have it, like a video tape or HD-DVD. I already have a DVR that can record, but it's stuck in the DVR and can't be kept permanently or shared with others, and it is also limited by the DVR's Hard Drive size.

They already have a Blu-Ray burner out for the computer, so they will most likely come out with a Blu-Ray DVD recorder you can hook up to your TV, and probably and HD-DVD one as well.

There are hacks for some HD DVRs to add Firewire ports so that the contents of the DVR can be transferred to a PC and edited or archived. Try searching on the model of your PVR and Firewire and see what turns up.

You can buy HD recordable discs already at your local Sony Store. The blanks are expensive, but so were DVDR and CDR in the beginning.
