Hes an old fellow set in his ways..he will see pee pads as being dirty...maybe the stairs will keep him going...a little exercise..

Block off the stairs so he cannot get down. But he is an old dog and will try to hold out, and may end up peeing back inside the house instead on the pad. Good luck!

You can try to train him to the pee pads the same way you trained him to be housebroken. Treats and a lot of praise often help. Another thought would be, depending on the size of your deck, corner off an area to place a thin layer of dirt/soil for him to use. Dogs often want an area where they can kick the dirt around. I have seen some people make them, they kinda look like dirt sandboxes. Good Luck!
