Since the cable co added the box, I can't record anymore. Before the cable box, I had no problem recording my shows. What needs to go into the vcr, and what needs to come out of the cable box? Do I need an A/B switch? Where does that go?

Depends on the type of box you've got. But most will work by plugging the box into your VCR, then plugging the VCR into your TV.
Of course, you'll have to change the VCR's input to AV.

There's a couple of different ways to go here.

1. The output from the cable box is fed into the input of the VCR. The VCR output is fed into the TV. The VCR most likely will have to be set on Channel 3 for the signal to pass thru. This will enable you to tape, but only for the channel that the cable box is currently set to.

2. Install a splitter on the cable line before it goes into the cable box. One line goes into the VCR Input and the other goes into the Cable Box input. Hopefully you have two inputs on your TV. use the cable box output on one, and the VCR output on the other. You can now record any shows you want, for all the channels your VCR is capable of receiving, and as long as they remain analog signals. On my current system, this would work for up to channel 81. After that its all digital programming and the VCR won't record it.
