I don't know if we can completely stop it .. but we can make it harder for it to happen.. i like the uniform idea I think all kids should wear uniforms and I think the punishment for violence should be more severe and it should involve the child's parents as well and also parents need to keep in contact with the teachers communication would be a big help ..I have two daughters in middle school in a not so great neighborhood but i think the principal is great .. they wear uniforms and fighting is not tolerated..

Metal detectors, frisking, etc before they get on the bus, not after. And a no-outside-contact environment, like an airport has, once they get on the bus so no one can slip them anything. This would mean no grounds visitors to school.
In my day, people beat the crap out of each other in school with bare fists and chairs. People are violent by nature, and that is a more complex question as to how to stem that -- 100% employment? decent wages? no disenfranchised poor side of town? no drugs? no entertainment media violence? See, it gets into censorship, and whether you want to live in a locked-down police state.
But short term, I say treat the boarding areas of buses like airports.

By bringing back corporal punishment. The saying violence begets violence is a load of crock... children brought up in earlier eras would never have been acting the way the brats of today are acting... And they are not being brought up under the rule of corporal punishment; so how did they become violent?

thats a good question! let me know if you come up with a good answer. just remember...kids are complicated and change every day and can sneak their way around things no matter what. violence is around them everyday, its in the AIR and they grow up seeing it on tv. your best bet would be to eliminate ALL violence shown in movies, tv shows, commercials, video games, and even the news...GOOD luck with that! music has influence too!
on another note..id like to bring up the zero tolerance policy and all the things considered as "weapons" on school grounds...like once i had my tweezers confescated because it could hurt someone if i used it against them...i brought up the fact that he should take away my pencils papers books binder shoes hair tie and clip and even my ruler...for reasons i wont mention BUT reasons likely.

Start when children are born!! Begin teaching morals and values and simply the difference between right and wrong. Violent and uncontrolled children grow up to be menaces to society...I think most all problems we face today could be better controlled if parents TAKE BACK CONTROL! good question...(I also like the answer arm the teachers....unfortunate, huh?)

Make bullying a crime. Anyone caught bullying another student should be expelled and first offense a night in solitairy confinement no matter what age they are. Second offense a week in solitary and third offense a month in solitary.
Any repeat offense should be transfered to juvenile hall until they are 18.

The most important factor in safe schools is communication. School administrators need to encourage more of it between teachers and students and parents.
If you are a concerned parent, talk to the school faculty. If you are a concerned student, talk to a teacher. By opening up, we can learn more about our environment.

I am at a secondary school that’s classed as ruff, well it was when I started, and so was my primary school too. But now I am in my last year and I have to say I have seen a massive improvements, as I did my other school, and you know what they common denominator was, we got new head teachers who were tuff on school bullies. Every school needs someone who will be tuff on bullies.
