Yes.... it damages very badly.... i would suggest only do it once or twice a year... your ends will dry out and break.. because its a chemical that they put in your hair... same with strightening.... and only make sure you want a perm because i made a wrong choice and had a perm and hated it.. so i had to get it strighten.. and now i have to use a strighting iron everyday!

Perming does damage your hair. Just make sure you take care of your hair after you get a perm. After you wash and condition your hair, comb your hair with a wide tooth comb. A pick actually works very well. Try not to brush it. It's best to not brush or comb your hair when it's dry because your curls will end up looking frizzy.
As for how often. . .
When you get regrowth, just have your stylist do a root perm. Don't re-perm your entire hair because that will do too much damage.

It depends on what kind of perms you use. If you use the wrong kind for your hair, it can really do some damage. I use no-lye relaxers and they work fine. Depending on how long it takes for new-growth to develop, you should perm it every 1-2 months.

Yes. It should be applied correctly and only applied once every few months. Also, be careful with styles that require heat applications too often. If you have to hot comb or curl your hair daily, find another style. Heat can be equally as damaging to your hair as a relaxer can. Deep condition your hair often and seek out hair products that extend the life of a relaxer. Avon has a great line of these products called Advanced Techniques Straight and Sleek.

It can be if you do it too frequently or if it is done badly to begin with. I recommend perming the hair about every 5 months or so depending on how well your hair holds the curl.

perming is extremely damaging unless you have really really strong hair....you should not perm it more than evey 3 months for short hair.....every 6 months or longer for long hair...and never if you have more than a few blond highlights
