I'm sorry you didn't describe the smell. It may not be ketones at all. You haven't mentioned pain, fever, or the color of your urine. That it is clear is a good sign. Ketonuria isn't a sign of kidney failure. If your kidneys were failing, you wouldn't be producing much urine at all. You may be overly concerned about nothing but for your own piece of mind and to rule out any actual disorder, make that appointment for a visit.

First off, WATER IS all you need. Cranberry juice is full of sugar and too much isn't good for anyone. I don't know about the smell of ketones, but if for some reason you are thinking kidney failure, it's not something to look for a fix for. See a doctor and put your mind at ease. Keto Dia stix can be purchased at any pharmacy and can easily tell if ketones are present in your urine. Why do you thin ketones? Are you on a low or no carb diet? If you are, think twice about how important losing that weight is and what other means you are able to succeed with. You CAN NOT Live on a high protein diet forever, but you can change your eating habits and be able to lose weight and keep it off and have a new way of eating forever.

I don't know what the "funny smell is" - but ketones are from high blood sugar....read on for home care:
How do I test for urine ketones? Ketone dipsticks are used for this test. A dipstick is a thin plastic strip that has a pad at the end of the strip with chemicals to test for ketones. The chemicals on the ketone dipsticks test pad turn purple when there are ketones in your urine. You can get ketone dipsticks at most drug stores. Follow the instructions that come with the ketone dipstick kit exactly. When choosing a Ketone test kit follow these guidelines:
Read the label to be sure the test kit you are getting is FDA approved.
Make sure the date on the test kit has not expired (passed).
Be sure you store the test kit at the correct temperature and light conditions.

You need to see your doctor. Without conducting a urine test and a full examination anything said on here is simply a guess. "Urine smelling funny" isn't enough to give you anything even remotely accurate. If you think that your kidneys are failing then you need to see a doctor ASAP, not sit here on the computer and ask a bunch of non-doctors who can't examine you to diagnose you based on this partial information. Good luck to you and set up your appointment right away to put your mind at ease.

You may just have an infection. I would see a doctor for a diagnosis first, before trying anything else other than plain water.
