I think if Whites feel underrepresented in this country, you should start a WET, CAACP, and White History month.
If you turn on the television and feel you can't relate to the people on it, start your own network, by all means.
If you suffer injustices because your skin is white, start a CAACP.
If your history is ignored in school cirriculum and children grow up not understanding why America is in a state that is in today petition to be included in any way you can, even if that means only a month of enlightenment, by all means, do so.
If you watch a major awards show and despite all of the wonderful movies that you have seen the past year, you don't see any nominated for an award. Start your own awards.
Dr. King fought for equality. You are right about that. He did not, however fight for invisibility. Don't confuse Dr. Kings work of fighting so that Black children could have the same opportunities afforded to all children with Dr. King wanting Blacks to lose their identity. We didn't want to be White, just wanted to send our children to quality schools, ride on the bus and sit where we chose to for the same fare that whites paid and receive the same pay for the same work, among other things. Just because you personally may have never perpetuated racism, don't act like it is some abstract concept that does not exist.
Your arguments are like saying that Blacks shouldn't have their own businesses because now we can patronize yours. Ooh, lucky us.
And Amelia as long as your FAMILY earns around $25,000/yr and you attend an HBCU I think you can apply for the UNCF provided you have needs not met by Federal Financial aid. Give it a shot.

Did you also know Chinese people have their own language and food? Did you know Indians have their own clothes language and T.V stations. Did you also know the all other nations, nationality and tribes have the on Stations, TV shows and Culture. So why do you expect any other group to only like what you like. Did you know the french have their own TV shows, in French and for French. Their is no such thing a ALL humans being one unified group.
What the so-call Black race do is no different than what Jews, Indians, Japanese, Ghanaians, Chinese or White Americans do.
Blacks learned a long time ago their is no such thing as assimilation. We no longer desire to walk, talk, act, believe, look, dress, and do what everyone else want us to do. We were once a people who have everything that involves what we believe, and we did what we believe, because it was ours. No one lives their life to please others.
P.S all the thing you mention was not started by Blacks, Blacks didn't get together and form a union for those things. Some or one African American saw it as a lack of something. So they created those things because of DISCRIMINATION, not just to see how the other group would react. White TV awards, CAACP, WET the only motive for that is to see how the other group would react, not because it's a need for it. Which may display insecurities or even racism.

Typical "racist backlash" question.
To some extent I agree with you, that no race should be put above any other. However, most networks and awards shows have historically discriminated against all non-white people, so these groups are attempting to level the playing field. Think about it - other than Ed Bradley on "60 Minutes" and Al Roker, how many African-American newscasters do you see on network news programs?
Perhaps I am sensitive about this because we in the LGBT community hear the same bigoted remarks about having a "straight person's parade," "straight pride," etc. Every parade is a straight person's parade - you are not precluded from joining in; as opposed to, for example, the St. Patrick's Day parade in NYC, which specifically prohibits LGBT people.
See? I knew it - look at Gretta's answer above. Typical.

It's a real puzzle to me. I guess all these black awards came about because black people wanted to stand out or apart from whites. Showing black awards gives encouragement to black people, I think. There are probably quite a few black stars who simply do not wish to appear on such award shows. I can think of plenty of black movie stars who simply would not. But no matter.

What is CAACP? I think you mean NAAWP. Although NAACP could also mean National Association for the Advancement of Caucasian People.

Some would argue that we already had white awards for a very long time. But you're right, it doesn't help race relations.

the only thing i think about that is what would Dr King say today. he fought and died so "people of color" would be treated equally - it's almost like there should be black drinking fountians and black fountians again - you can have a black this or that but not white - it's just silly in my opinion.

because white people are in the majority in America, apparently. And if a majority has any type of exclusive thing happening, its seen as racism.
Heres another question, where do I sign up for the Straight Pride Parade?
