I am wondering myself, will I pick a dumb answer also? I guess we'll see! I wasn't sure what to even catorgorize this one under.

I saw one, that had several intellegent answers, the asker picked the only dumb one, the answer was a Yo, yea! kind of answer. Then I looked at the avatars. The asker was a young female, the answerer's avatar was that of a young attractive male. Mystery solved.
Some folks are not asking a question to get any answer, they are asking to be agreed with. Some say that right up front, others do not. Those folks will pick the only answer that agrees, even if it poorly worded.
So there was the fairly intelligent answer, here is the "dumb" one: "Yo, pick the one you wanna!" Now I qualify for best answer in both catagories! Sorry, I'm not changing my avatar to guarantee it.

I think its like a popularity contest. Though I have no idea what makes one popular here (besides popular opinion). Guess I'm not winning the contest.
I always pick the answer I think is best, even if I don't agree with it, as long as its well-thought out but most people don't do it that way. They don't ask because they want a good answer, they just want approval, or to rant or have people agree with them about something stupid.

Its a personal choice matter. If you think someone has given you the advice/answer you're looking for, then chose them. Just because someone gives a long complicated diatribe, does not mean its necessarily the best answer. I got given best answer for simply saying - "go to BBC and click thru'" . Can't even remember what the question was now!!

you need to see through the eyes of the picker. What seems dumb to you may not be so dumb to the person who picks it as the best answer

It's all in the eye of the questioner. Maybe it made sense to them. I myself have had 10 points given for best answer and I was just kidding.

I think it's because some call them sweetie, etc. Or maybe they got a best answer by someone and are repaying the favor.

It is just a matter of opinion, and I am sure they don't think it is the dumbest one or they wouldn't have picked it.
