I am currently in the Army National Guard, and have 2 years left on my 6 year contract. My Field Artillery Unit is being reorganized as a signal support unit, to my understanding. My current MOS is Field Artillery Surveyor. I like it because I am out in the field and doing stuff. It will no longer be offered and I must choose a new MOS from the following list:

The MOS choices that I have are as follows:
1) 15Q
2) 14J
3) Intel Analyst (Signal Support) I don't have the code for it.
4) 25U
5) 25B
6) 31B
7) 74D
8) 21U
9) 68W

I wouldn't mind an "in office" or "stationary" MOS as long as it will not bore me. I would prefer a MOS that is lower on the deployability scale. I do not want to be a cook, mechanic, or driver. I am an accountant in my civilian life. I would consider being a medic, but I think they are in high demand. I wonder if being an MP would mean lots of **** details and guard duty. My pay grade is E-3 but E-4 within 6 months. What do you think?

Go for the 14J. It is kind of close to the current field (ADA instead of Artillery) and is high tech, lots of indoor and outdoor time, plus it has many civilian applications.

1st off are you planing on staying in for a while? Next do you want field work or office. Deployability is the least of your concerns because no mater what mos you are you are going to go if everyone else in your unit goes. They will train you for what they need. Stating this I would suggest 31B because you can gain rank faster in this mos and will be getting reddy for deployment that is bound to happen. Sometimes deploying as an mp aint bad. I deployed with the alabama national guard for a 1 year and 1/2 to Germany as Mp and had the time of my life. Also they are in high demand so your reinlistment bonus will be nice. Right now in Bama it's $20,000

Guard units are deployed as units so your MOS won't matter on depolyment.

When I was in I transfered from a Signal company to a Field Artillery unit and switched my MOS from Wheeled mechanic to Supply clerk. Supply is the best of the three, cooks, mechanics and supply. Only bad part was we also had the arms room.

If you an accountant and have a degree need to decide if you are going to stay in the Guard or not. If you're going to stay and have a degree you should go to OCS and be an officer. Otherwise if you get deployed E-4 pay is going to be a big cut from accounting pay.

14J sounds fun because you get to work with missiles but 15Q sounds easy because all you do is maintain logs and control traffic.

15Q is good if you want to work as in a civilian air traffic control place but you already are an accountant soo... its basically up to you.

if possible could you email me [desertsnakex@yahoo.com]? i would like to ask you some questions about the natl guard... i am thinking about joining
