Well the police arent gonna come round and kick your door down!

But your works insurance will be invalid. So if anything happened whilst you were at work then the sh*t would hit the fan!

if your doctor put you off of work theres probably a good reason why - however you sound a lot like me - my doctor put me off work for 2 weeks a couple of months ago due to me having seizures - I took 1 day off (only because I had tests at the hospital that day) and went straight back - no ill effects came back on me

only from a health and safety point of view, Your doctor (Who is a health care professional)with loads of letters after his name, has said you are not medically fit to work, hence the sick note.
if you then go and attend work and have an accident you would not be able to claim a penny. your employer also has a legal obligation to tell you to piss off until you are fit to return

Why would it be illegal. Its not like they are going to double pay you cause you werent supposed to be there. If you are at work, then you are only getting paid the hours that you are there. Your not getting paid 8 hours of sick time, plus the time your there....sorry man, doesn't work that way. Your job is a little smarter then that.

By rights your work should have sent you home and you're not allowed to return until your sick note runs out / your doctor signs you back on again

You won't go to jail However if anything were to happen to you your employer or your insurance would not be held accountable. If something happend that was related to your condition, you could be denied insurance coverage. Best thing is to do what your dr says.
