If that were the case, no one would own a cat!

Cats themselves can not give you or the baby anything. I had a cat the entire time I was pregnant and my baby was 7 lbs 15 oz perfectly healthy in every way, my cat on the other hand was house trained, she meawed to go potty outside even in the rain. It is what is in the cats droppings that are harmful to unborns. If your cat is litter trained, someone else will have to do the lovely chore of cleaning the cat box and it should be cleaned daily plus certain types of litter are more toxic so check that out if your cat is house trained there is no problem at all.

Have someone else clean the cats poop and it should be fine, I wouldn't worry until the baby is born, that's a real problem. The cats will smell the milk on the baby and try go get some either when the baby is sleeping or not. The danger is when the baby is sleeping because the cat can get too close to the babies mouth and literally take its little breath away! Please watch the cat and the baby together!!

yes it can be dangerous to pregnant women. But if you stay away from the litter box then you will be fine. It is the litter and poop that is the problem. Not the cat. Just be aware that litter can get stuck in the kittys feet.

You can have cats, it's usually cleaning the litter box that is supposed to be avoided. Except for that aspect, having cats in the house is safe while you are pregnant. Just avoid the litter box.

Yes, I was told by a doctor to stay away from the litter box (even the clean litter) because it carries a bacteria that is fatal to the little one. It is called Toxoplasmosis.

Just in the feces. Dont change or mess with the litter box while pregnant. Wash your hands after handling your cats, they often have litter on their feet. :)

There is but having them in the house is not going to be dangerous to the baby. But DO NOT clean the litter box. Have someone else do it. And be vigilant about hand washing.

You shouldn't be handling the feces (ie: cleaning the litter box). Other than that, no problem I know of having cats.

This is true but you dont have to get rid of your cat. Just dont' hold it a lot and if you do wash your hands afterwards and NEVER clean out its litter box while you are pregnant.

otherwise you can be around cats.

Yes, that's true. Pregnant women should under NO circumstances clean the litterbox. However, it IS perfectly fine to have cats, just make sure that your husband or kid is doing the litterbox during this time.
