yet every time I go to a GP they want to do some useless screening, usually by way of a smear test, yet I have a few real medical conditions that they ignore

The problem with breast screening wasnt that it caused harm, but that 10% of all cases treated didnt actually need to be treated.

Breast screening is really important and so are smear tests. Take all the tests and screening you can get! It may well save your life.

Smears are really important and we all should have this test. The NhS is under constant scrutiny from the press if they miss something they are criticised if they do too much they are criticised. If you feel that your GP is not giving you the service that you feel you need I suggest you change GP. Its like any other service its only as good as the person running it.

You know, it may pay for you to change GP's. What you describe just doesn't sound right. Nobody should "ignore" your conditions!

On the other hand, I would go ahead with the screenings, regardless of recent reports (personally), simply because I'd rather know than not know.

Everbody's got to make up their own mind about screenings, weighing the most recent reasonable-sounding evidence.

I heard that too... Sometimes doctors make no real common sense to me. They enjoy the insurance money they receive, and they always seem to tell you to come back in a week if you are not better, and I just love how they rush you in and out of there in 20 minutes. Makes a person wonder if they are even doing their job the right way!!

It's taken long enough for them to wise up to how crushing and irradiating breast tissue might be a bad idea. I have long maintained that it would be a cold day in hell before I subjected myself to a mammogram when ultrasound is available. Not exacltly rocket science.
Funny how they don't check for testicular cancer the same way they did breast cancer, eh girls?

Shows just how stupid the NHS is, not testing machines before they use them. Lots of women have had mammograms and now they go and tell you it causes damage after you have got over cancer. Well bravo NHS aren't you clever!

i seen the report today saying mammograms actually cause harm i bet that the top docs already knew that squashing breast tissue with the mammography machine was bad for women's health
