It could be many things! If you suspect that your budgie is sick, it is best to consult a vet as soon as possible. Budgies are masters at disguising illness and often by the time sickness is noticeable, it is very serious. Common signs of illness include less activity than usual and/or less chirpiness than usual, sitting fluffed up and sleeping a lot, lack of appetite or not eating at all. A word of caution. See a vet within 24 hours if you suspect your bird is sick. It is VERY IMPORTANT to keep your bird VERY WARM. Place a cover over the cage, use hot covered water bottles around the cage to add warmth. Keep your bird, out of draughts and keep him quiet. Consult a vet immediately.

I am not a veterinarian, I am a wildlife rehabilitator and own several parrots including a parakeet. He absolutely sounds sick to me and needs to see a vet immediately. Birds try to hide the fact that they are sick because in the wild a sick bird will immediately become prey. For that reason, once they start acting sick (like not eating and acting sleepy) they are CRITICALLY ill and need to see a vet right away!!! Only a veterinarian can tell you what is wrong with him.

First of all.....and most people who have birds do not know this, you need to convert him to a pellet diet. By feeding your bird a seed diet, you are virtually starving the poor thing to death. I found out the hard way when my cockatiel had problems breathing and was on death's door. You'll need to hospitalize your bird and convert him to a pellet diet. It's not that expensive. But get him to the vet a.s.a.p. Birds don't do well if they have to wait for any length of time.

Take him to a vet. It could be any number of things, but once a bird actually shows signs of being sick, time is critical. Take him to a vet as soon as humanly possible.

He's reached a mating age. You should probably get him a female now. He's performing a mating ritual. If you don't want to get another bird though...it will pass as the seasons change, but it will come back every year.
