You shouldn't make generalizations about religious people. Some of my best pals are athiests. I might not agree with them, but I certainly don't consider them, or other atheists, evil.

By calling you evil, it is a way of saying they are good, and what they believe is good. No one wants to know that what they believe in is bad or wrong. It doesn't matter if science proves them to be wrong, they will believe because that is what they want to do. They will call it faith. I've never thought Religion to be a bad thing and do not bash those who believe in whatever religion. It helps some people overcome terrible hardships, and it keeps many from committing atrocities against society by setting rules that they believe they cannot break. The only problem is when they aggressively try to convert or force their beliefs on others, or feel they are the only "right" people and the evil need to be eliminated. These are the fanatics, and have been dangerous throughout history. And they are out there right now.

Atheist are people too and many have become so because of the abuses and horrors, perpetrated by religious institutions. My grandfather, for example, became agnostic because when he was recruited to fight in WWI the priests blessed the troops and told them if they died fighting, God would take them straight to heaven. He thought to himself "I bet the priest on the other side are saying the same thing to our enemies." Later he came to see that you should blame God for what his so called representative do. I think that is a fair assessment in any field. Sometimes those who claim to represent a school of thought really don't. He decided at least to give the Bible a fair shake, and when he did he was surprised to find that it condemns much of what is being done in the name of God. On the other hand I don't think it is fair to paint all people with one label with the same brush. Perhaps even atheist would not like to be viewed as religious fanatics for atheism. Sometimes atheist express their views just the same a the Catholic Inquisition did in the dark ages, as if everyone who doesn't see things their way deserves to die. I read today in one of the answers that religious people tend to be more narrow minded. But I have come to see, by reading many of the questions and answers in this Yahoo thing that anybody can be narrow minded and intolerant, whether they are religious or not.

I just want to say that i am sorry for the lies that you were told in your youth. I am not an atheist, I very much believe in God. In what capacity I am not sure. What I do know is that the God that I believe in does not find any particular group evil. Evil exists in people not in religion, races, sexes, or nationalities. If you do not believe in God, that is okay, I do not find you evil for that. But, remember, just as you are judged for being atheist, those of us who believe in God are also judged. We are called uneducated, ignorant, and fanatics. The fact of the matter, as I said before, is that people are people and flaws exists in all groups across the board. I believe in God because there is so much beauty and horror in this world that science cannot explain and there is also the feeling that is constant in my heart. I am not a fanatic or primitive, I simply believe.

1) It's not really said by all atheists about all theists. 2) Theism and religion are not equal, and you misuse the word religion. 3) You don't know what open-minded means. 4) People coping by living under a lie are not coping, they are being taken advantage of. 5) It certainly isn't "knowing" as you have written. 6) You are incorrect about existential matters and determining existence. Both in method and conclusion. If there is anything else you need to get off your chest, don't bother. ...You are specifying a limited definition of religion by saying it involves gods, and are equating it to theism. You are incorrect in your terminology for this reason. Open-minded is when someone can accept they do not know, or they believe wrong. Having a Christian belief is the opposite of open-mindedness. You need to get educated to even know what YOU are talking about.

I'm so sorry that someone was cruel enough to call you evil. It's normal for everyone, even believers to question their faith at times. I'm a believer and I have friends, family members and neighbors that I'm close to that are atheists. We get along because we don't judge each other, we're just friends hanging out together. Again, I'm sorry you encountered some very closed-minded and harsh people that hurt you. The Jesus I love accepts all of us... just like we are warts and all. Take care.

Many religious people have no real "inner compass." They live by "the word" and do what the bible (or whatever law their religion teaches) says. They do good to get to heaven and to avoid hell (or their version of this.) The idea that others don't need fear to steer them to the good, or have a punishment (other than conscience and inner compass) when they do bad is frightening to them which leads them to declare it evil. The same way on ancient maps, uncharted waters were labled "here there be monsters" simply because they were unknown, the deeply religious often label athiests monsters, because that lifestyle is unknown.

Why do the atheists keep saying religious people are crazy? I know several atheists that have their opinions but don't force them down everyones throats. I have many religious friends who don't force their beliefs on anyone. Seems to me you must be very outspoken about your lack of faith to feel the way you do.

I am Christian and I have never said that about any atheists. That is unfair of you to group all Christians into one category just as it would be for me to group atheists as antagonistic. People are people, each different, regardless of their religion.

you try real hard to sound intelligent and convincing...however your misspellings belie the truth. I am sure that today you still do not possess the ability to decipher the truth...let alone when you were 9. People are mocking you because you are stupid, not because you are an atheist!
