All of you must take into account where the original poster may be. In some places in Europe a picture IS required to be submitted along with the resume. Same for Japan with many of the companies. In the USA a picture is not needed as your skills and experience are what make you marketable.

Es~ I recommend you look up resume etiquette for your country if you do not reside in the USA. If you do live in the USA, then no, no picture is required.

having to do with HR myself I disagree with the beforementioned. I actually can't even believe what I have read.

A resumé REQUIRES a good picture to get attention.
As sad as this is, people are still judged by their looks...
Which should not be mistaken as "the person most pretty will get the job". But pictures convey and can underline certain attributes. One can look smart or intelligent or shy or dumb( or...) - which does not necessarily mean people are this way. Nevertheless, we associate certain attributes with the picture.

A resumé including a good picture has always the better chance.
If you are in the process of writing a resumé, consider going
to a dedicated photographer for taking your pictures instead of heading to an automated box at your station.
Personally, I think that black-and-white pictures are best suited.

No, unless you're a model or actress (in which case it's called a head shot and has your resume on the back).
Nowadays it's considered rather vain to do this. Most companies actually prefer if you don't, because 1) it has nothing to do with your qualifications, and 2) it may interfere with their attempts to not let race, gender, age, etc influence their hiring decision.
Use Microsoft Word's Resume Wizard or template to create your resume - it's fast and simple, and creates a nice look that HR directors love.

Maybe that is why I can't get a job, I have never considered putting my picture on my resume. I graduated college in May Magna-Com-Laude (spelt wrong on purpose, looks like a dirty word in Answers) and they didn't teach us a thing about that. That would be discriminatory to decide who gets a job by what they look like, even though I know it happens.

The only reason you need a picture on your resume is if you are an actor/actress or a model. Otherwise, you just seem cocky, like you are trying to get the job based on your looks.

I've never put a picture in a resume. Why would they need to know what you look like?

It is neither required, nor appropriate. Unless your resume is actually a portfolio that contains a BIO, or perhaps you are an actor or model.

Also, your age, or social insurance/security number should not be listed.
