If the weather and the area you live in permits do this. I live in the country and have a big back yard with no neighbors in site. Let him run around out side with no clothes on. I know this sounds funny but it works. He will learn to aim his pee and he will learn to know when he is going to pee. It works realy I know it sounds funny but it does. Don't do this if you live in a city with neighbors or if it is cold. I can't even pee out side that easily when it is cold.

First, you have to make sure he is ready. If he's interested in the potty, can pull his own pants down and holds his urine in for longer periods are all good signs. I used the reward system. I made a chart and hung it on the bathroom wall. Every time he successfully used the potty he got a star, until we reached 10 stars. He then got a small toy. He was so excited to get a toy, he was potty trained in 2 days.

Get him familiar with it first off. Say to him while changing his diaper "You're going to use the potty soon!" Talk about it whenever possible. If you're in the bathroom say "There's the potty..are you going to be a big boy and use it soon?"
Take him to the store and let him pick out his own underwear and his own rewards. If he picks them out himself, he'll be more likely to be excited about wearing the underwear and going potty for the rewards he chose.
Put him straight in his underwear. Don't use pull-ups. They are a waste of time and money and teach the child nothing. Children I know who use them call them "diapers" because that's basically what they are and have no use when it comes to potty training. Put him in his new underwear and tell him he is going to wear those from now on. Put him in a diaper at night until he can wake up with a dry one. Once he can wake up with a dry diaper, start making him wear underwear to bed.
Ask him every half hour if he needs to go potty. If he says he doesn't and then later pees his pants then he gets a toy taken away.

If you stay at home or no (you can have the babysitter do it) take him to the bathroom every thirty minuets, and put him on the potty. Even if he dosen't have to go. He will get the hang of it. My son did after the first two days!!
Good luck.

Make a game out of it. My girlfriend would throw cheerios into the potty and she would ask her little one to shoot and aim. THe kid had so much fun with it he once sat for 2 hours trying to get urine out of himself to play the game.
